Tasting notes

This is a genuinely thirst-quenching rosé built on bright red fruit — strawberry, raspberry, and a faint herbal edge from the Blaufrankisch — kept honest by the cool-climate acidity of Moravian loess soils. At 12% ABV with zero added sulfur and a direct-press approach, it drinks like a rosé with actual personality rather than a formula.

The Youngster Rosé is Milan Nestarec's nouveau-style rosé, released in the autumn immediately following harvest. Made from direct-press Pinot Noir and Blaufrankisch (locally called Frankovka) grown on loess, clay, and loam soils in Moravský Žižkov, the vines were approximately 19 years old at harvest and yielded around 35 hl/ha. Total production was 6,000 bottles.

The grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed, and direct-pressed. The juice ferments spontaneously in 2,000-liter stainless steel tanks over roughly two months, with occasional pigeage to manage the cap. Elevage takes place in the same tanks for an additional two months. The wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with zero added sulfur.

The Youngster range is Nestarec's take on Beaujolais Nouveau — a snapshot of the vintage in its most immediate, unguarded form. It is designed to be drunk fresh, well-chilled, and without ceremony. The 2021 vintage in Moravia was noted for balance and freshness, which carries through in this wine's lively acidity and forward fruit.

Farming across the Nestarec estate is certified organic (certification obtained in 2022, with organic practices in place since 2008). No herbicides, synthetic fertilizers, or systemic treatments are used in the vineyards.

Serve well-chilled alongside grilled sardines, a tomato and cucumber salad with feta, or a charcuterie spread of cured meats and pickles. The wine's acidity holds up to lightly acidic and salty foods without competing. Works equally well on its own as an aperitif.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Milan Nestarec

Milan Nestarec is based in Moravský Žižkov in southern Moravia. His father, Milan Nestarec Sr., planted the family's first 8 hectares of vines in 2001 across two municipalities: Moravský Žižkov and Velké Bílovice. Milan took over all winemaking responsibilities when he was around 16 years old and began converting the estate to organic farming and low-intervention cellar practices in 2008, inspired in part by visits to natural wine producers in Friuli and Slovenia — including Radikon, Gravner, and Movia. He also studied enology directly with Aleš Kristančič of Movia, where he developed his approach to minimal-intervention winemaking.

The estate has grown from the original 8 hectares to roughly 24 hectares under vine. All vineyards are estate-owned and farmed organically; certification was obtained in 2022, though organic practices have been in place since 2008. Soils across the estate span loess, clay, sand, and loam depending on the plot. No herbicides, pesticides, industrial fertilizers, or systemic treatments are used. Nestarec is a founding member of the Autentiste group, a Czech collective of producers committed to natural viticulture and minimal cellar intervention.

In the cellar, all wines undergo spontaneous fermentation using only indigenous yeasts. Nestarec avoids fining and filtration across his full range, and adds little to no sulfur — the Youngster wines are bottled with zero added SO2. Vessels vary by cuvée: the Youngster range ferments and ages in 2,000-liter stainless steel tanks, while other wines in the portfolio use old oak and acacia barrels. The Youngster line is bottled young, shortly after primary fermentation, and released in the autumn of the harvest year for immediate drinking.

Wine region

Moravia, Czech Republic

Moravia sits in the southeastern corner of the Czech Republic, bordering Austria and Slovakia, and accounts for over 90% of the country's vineyard area. The villages of Moravský Žižkov and Velké Bílovice fall within the Velkopavlovice sub-region, considered the heart of Moravian red wine production. Vineyard slopes here face south and southwest and are swept by warm föhnish winds in autumn that accelerate grape ripening. The continental climate brings warm summers, dry autumns, and cold winters — conditions that preserve acidity and extend the ripening season.

Soils in the area are predominantly loess — wind-deposited silt that is deep, well-draining, and mineral-rich — with pockets of clay and loam, particularly around Moravský Žižkov. Loess retains moisture and supports even ripening while contributing to the freshness and aromatic clarity that characterizes wines from this zone. The region grows both white and red varieties; Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, and Müller-Thurgau dominate the white plantings, while Blaufrankisch (Frankovka), Pinot Noir, and Zweigelt are the primary reds. A new generation of organic and low-intervention producers, led by names like Milan Nestarec, has brought Moravia significant international attention over the past decade.
