Tasting notes

Alsatian Pinot Noir rosé on granite is a rare and specific thing: the decomposed granite soils of Dambach-la-Ville push through as a fine, mouth-coating salinity under the red fruit. No added sulfites and native yeast fermentation keep the wine alive and direct, with a crunchy, dry finish that reads more mineral than fruity.

Kammeleon Rosé is made from certified organic Pinot Noir grown across multiple parcels of decomposed granite in Dambach-la-Ville, Alsace. The vineyards sit around 500 meters above sea level on the eastern slopes of the Vosges mountains, with soils that are stony, sandy, and shallow — the same granite terroir that underlies the Frankstein Grand Cru. These poor, well-draining soils push vines to root deep and yield small, concentrated fruit.

Eric Kamm took over Domaine Jean-Louis et Eric Kamm in 2005 and converted the family's 6.5 hectares to certified organic farming, eliminating herbicides, synthetic products, and chemical fertilizers. Fermentation happens with native yeasts in the estate's ancestral cellar. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered with no added sulfites.

Pinot Noir is the only red grape permitted in Alsace. Grown on granite, it produces wines that tend toward bright red fruit, crisp acidity, and a mineral salinity characteristic of the Dambach-la-Ville terroir. In rosé form, it is lighter in body, lower in tannin, and particularly expressive of the granite-driven minerality of the site.

Appellation: AOC Alsace. No added sulfites. Unfined. Unfiltered. Certified organic.

Serve with Alsatian charcuterie, smoked sausage, or cold cuts where the wine's acidity cuts through fat. It also works well alongside fresh goat cheese or a simple tomato salad. Light enough to pair with grilled salmon or trout prepared with lemon.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Eric Kamm

Domaine Jean-Louis et Eric Kamm was founded in 1905 in Dambach-la-Ville. The estate has passed from father to son across multiple generations. Jean-Louis Kamm began bottling estate wines in the 1970s; prior to that, the family was in polyculture like many Alsatian growers of that era. The domaine currently farms 6.5 hectares around Dambach-la-Ville, including access to parcels on the Frankstein Grand Cru.

Eric Kamm took over the domaine in 2005 and initiated conversion to certified organic farming, a process completed after three years of transition. The vineyards are worked without herbicides, synthetic treatments, or chemical fertilizers. The parcels consist of multiple plots of decomposed volcanic granite at approximately 500 meters elevation. Eric designs his own wine labels and has developed a separate range of natural wines alongside the domaine's conventional certified-organic lineup.

Fermentation takes place with native yeasts present on the grape skins in the estate's ancestral cellar, without temperature control. Eric describes his approach as being as non-interventionist as possible in the cellar. The Kammeleon Rosé is unfined, unfiltered, and bottled with no added sulfites.

Wine region

Alsace, France

Alsace runs north to south along the eastern slopes of the Vosges mountains in northeastern France, bordering Germany and the Rhine river. The Vosges act as a rain shadow, making Alsace one of the driest wine regions in France, with long, sunny growing seasons and significant diurnal temperature variation that preserves acidity. Vineyards are concentrated in a narrow band at elevations of roughly 175 to 420 meters, with the Kamm estate parcels situated around 500 meters above sea level near Dambach-la-Ville.

Dambach-la-Ville is a fortified medieval village in the Bas-Rhin, roughly halfway between Strasbourg and Colmar, and home to the Frankstein Grand Cru — one of 51 Grand Crus in Alsace. Frankstein is composed of four south to south-east facing hillsides whose soils are uniformly granitic: light, stony, sandy decomposed granite with the parent rock often visible at the surface. This granite forces vine roots deep in search of water and minerals, concentrating flavor and imparting a characteristic saline minerality to wines grown here. Pinot Noir is the only red grape variety grown in Alsace.
