La Ghibellina

La Ghibellina is a distinguished winery located in Monterotondo, within the Gavi appellation of southern Piedmont, Italy. Established in 2000 by Marina Galli and her husband, Alberto Ghibellini, the estate spans approximately 9 hectares of organically farmed vineyards. These vineyards are predominantly situated on significant slopes with red clay soils rich in white rocks, benefiting from constant, brisk winds that contribute to the unique terroir.

The winery specializes in producing Gavi di Gavi wines from 100% Cortese grapes. Their flagship wine, 'Mainìn'—a dialect form of Marina's name—is fermented and aged in stainless steel, resulting in a fresh and expressive wine that showcases the mineral quality characteristic of the region. Additionally, La Ghibellina produces a Metodo Classico Brut, a sparkling wine made from estate-grown Cortese, aged on the lees for 24 months, offering a dry aperitif option that pairs excellently with seafood antipasti.

The estate's commitment to quality and terroir expression has garnered attention in recent tastings. Notably, their 2023 'Mainìn' Gavi di Gavi was praised for its crisp and tangy profile, marked by notes of citrus and pear, drawing favorable comparisons to Chablis.

Under the guidance of oenologist Beppe Caviola and agronomist Alberto Abate, La Ghibellina continues to produce wines that reflect the unique characteristics of the Gavi region, maintaining a focus on organic farming practices and minimal intervention winemaking techniques.
