Ça Boit Libre

This is the first vintage for Damien from his new cellar. An old horse barn turned Chai where he has been able to produce his first vintage of quantity. Going from a meager 2000 bottles in 2018 when we had first met to 20,000 bottles in 2020.

In 2019 Damien was able to purchase 3 hectares of gamay, pinot noir, altesse, jacquere, and chasselas in a nearby village of Marsaz on the border of Switzerland, while acquiring another parcel closer to Lake Geneva consisting mostly of more chasselas. Mostly planted on limestone and clay with wild alpine grasses, this vineyard is steep enough to make it difficult to drive a tractor, and hard to walk the rows with all the moisture gathered from the snow and rain. Damien, through his work at Domaine Ganevat, has experience with this kind of terroir and it shows in his first vintage.

The reds see a semi-carbonic maceration and are aged until the next harvest in 600L Demi-muid while the whites are mostly directly pressed and aged in smaller barrels. Each year Damien makes a macerated white and this year; with the recently acquired Jacquere, he has produced a short 2 week maceration reminiscent of the legendary Jean Yves Perrons macerations. The wines show an alpine freshness from their high altitude, and we think their drinkability will entice all kinds of wine drinkers. (source: Varda Wines)
