Decaffeinated by the Swiss Water process, which uses water and charcoal rather than solvents. Verve put the result at 99.9 percent caffeine free.

The bag reads almond, honey and cola. Nutty and dessert-like against a chocolatey background, and roasted medium so it does not have to hide behind a dark roast the way most decaf does.

The Brand

Verve Coffee Roasters

Verve opened in Santa Cruz in November 2007. Colby Barr and Ryan O'Donovan met at Chico State over music, design and coffee, and built the first cafe on 41st Avenue in Pleasure Point. They still own it and still roast there.

Sourcing runs through what they call the Farmlevel Initiative, their own programme for buying at origin. The largest piece of it so far, the Nursery Project, planted 60,000 Caturra Chiroso seedlings in Urrao, Colombia, an economic jumpstart for smallholders farming at high elevation in country that is hard to reach.

The blends are the everyday line and stay the same year to year. The single origin bags rotate with the season.

Pantry items are fulfilled by our partner retailer in California, so they ship on their own and will not arrive in the same box as your wine. Order both and you should expect two parcels, often on different days.

You will receive tracking for the pantry parcel within 3-4 business days.

Wine requires an adult signature on delivery. Pantry items do not, so they can be left at your door like any ordinary parcel.

Yes. Nothing here is tied to a wine purchase. Shipping for pantry items is calculated separately at checkout.

Most of what we carry is shelf stable until it is opened, and would rather sit in a cool dark cupboard than on a sunny counter. Anything that needs refrigerating once opened says so on the label.
