Product description

Poggio delle Baccanti Campania Fiano 2023 is a dry white wine made from 100% organically and dry-farmed Fiano, produced by the La Mura family at their estate in Sant'Antonio Abate on the Sorrento Peninsula, in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius. The vines grow in the mineral-rich volcanic soils characteristic of this part of Campania. Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts takes place in stainless steel, where the wine also completes its aging before being bottled unfined and unfiltered with very low sulfur additions of 40 ppm. Poggio delle Baccanti Campania Fiano 2023 is classified under the Campania IGP designation and carries 12% alcohol.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Poggio delle Baccanti

Poggio delle Baccanti is a family-owned estate located in Sant'Antonio Abate in the province of Naples, on the Sorrento Peninsula directly overlooking Mount Vesuvius. The La Mura family has been making wine in this area for three generations, with roots in Neapolitan winemaking going back to the 1950s, when Raffaele La Mura Sr., the son of a winemaker himself, established the business. The estate is currently run by brothers Raffaele and Paolo La Mura together with their cousins Giovanni and Raffaele, maintaining the family's continuity across generations.

The winery's historical specializations are Gragnano, a naturally sparkling red made from Aglianico, Piedirosso, and Sciascinoso in the hills above the Gulf of Naples, and the Lacryma Christi wines, produced from volcanic Vesuvian vineyards in the DOC of the same name. Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio, which translates as "tears of Christ on Vesuvius," is one of Campania's most historically rooted wine designations, and the estate has long been one of its practitioners. The lineup has since expanded to include varietal bottlings of Fiano, Greco, Falanghina, and Aglianico under the Campania IGP, as well as the Caprettone-based skin-contact frizzante Chupa Cabra.

Across the entire range, the approach is consistent: organic farming, dry farming wherever terrain allows, spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, stainless steel or large vessel aging, minimal sulfur additions only at bottling, and no fining or filtration. The estate does not use herbicides or synthetic treatments in the vineyard, and all harvesting is done by hand.

Wine region

Campania, Italy

Campania is one of southern Italy's most historically significant wine regions, with a viticultural record stretching back to ancient Greek and Roman settlement. The region encompasses a wide range of terroirs, from the volcanic slopes around Mount Vesuvius and the Campi Flegrei to the inland limestone hills of Irpinia and the coastal plains of the Sorrento Peninsula. This diversity supports a broad range of indigenous grape varieties, and Campania is widely regarded as having some of the richest native variety heritage in Italy.

The volcanic soils around Vesuvius are particularly distinctive. Composed of volcanic ash, pumice, and mineral-rich tuff, they are well-drained, low in nutrients, and force vines to root deeply, producing grapes with concentrated flavor and a characteristic mineral salinity. The area also benefits from a Mediterranean climate tempered by sea breezes from the Gulf of Naples, which moderate summer temperatures and help preserve acidity in white varieties like Fiano.

Fiano itself is an ancient Campanian white grape with a long documented history in the region. It is best known internationally through the Fiano di Avellino DOCG, produced from vineyards in the higher-altitude inland hills of Irpinia. When grown on Vesuvian volcanic soils closer to the coast, as at Poggio delle Baccanti, the variety takes on a lighter, more citrus-forward profile compared to the richer, more textured expressions from Avellino. Campania IGP, the designation under which this wine is released, allows producers working outside the specific boundaries of the region's named DOC and DOCG zones to label their wines by grape variety and region.
