Tasting notes

This blend leads with citrus peel and white peach, backed by floral notes from the Gewurztraminer and a stony, mineral finish that reflects the granite soils of Dambach-la-Ville. At 12% ABV in a liter bottle with no added sulfites, it drinks more like a lively table wine than a typical Alsatian showpiece.

Le Festival de Kamm is a white field blend from Domaine Jean-Louis et Eric Kamm in Dambach-la-Ville, Alsace, sold in a one-liter bottle. The 2019 is made from certified organic Auxerrois, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer grown on granite-rich parcels at around 500 meters elevation on the eastern slopes of the Vosges mountains. The wine is labeled Alsace AOC Vin Nature.

Fermentation takes place with native yeasts on the grape skins, without temperature control, in stainless steel or cement tanks. No sulfur dioxide is added at any stage. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered. This approach consistently produces wines that are straight, high-acid, and mineral rather than soft or aromatic in the traditional Alsatian sense.

Dambach-la-Ville sits in the Bas-Rhin, roughly halfway between Colmar and Strasbourg. The local soils are dominated by granite, which is unusual within Alsace and closer to the geology of Frankstein Grand Cru, the area's most celebrated vineyard site. The resulting wines tend toward tension and saline minerality over textural weight.

Works well with fresh goat cheese, rillettes, or charcuterie boards where its high acidity can cut through fat. Try it with spiced dishes such as Thai green curry or Alsatian tarte flambee. The liter format makes it practical for the table throughout a long meal.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Eric Kamm

Domaine Jean-Louis et Eric Kamm is a family estate based at 59 rue Marechal Foch, 67650 Dambach-la-Ville, Alsace. The domaine has been passed from father to son for multiple generations, with records of winemaking at the property dating to at least 1905. Eric Kamm took over primary winemaking responsibilities from his father Jean-Louis in 2005.

The estate covers approximately 6.5 to 7 hectares divided across multiple parcels around Dambach-la-Ville, all on volcanic granite soils at an average elevation of 500 meters above sea level. Varieties planted include Pinot Gris, Riesling, Auxerrois, Muscat, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Noir. The parcels include holdings in or adjacent to the Grand Cru Frankstein site. The estate is certified organic and works without herbicides, synthetic products, or chemical fertilizers.

Since taking over in 2005, Eric converted the estate fully to organic farming and began producing a range of zero-sulfur Vin Nature wines alongside the traditional certified-organic line. Fermentation uses only native yeasts from the grape skins with no temperature control. Wines in the nature range are vinified in stainless steel or cement tanks and bottled without fining, filtration, or added sulfites.

Wine region

Alsace, France

Alsace runs 80 miles along France's northeastern border, with the Rhine River to the east and the Vosges Mountains to the west. The Vosges act as a rain shadow, giving Alsace one of the driest climates in France despite its northern latitude. Dambach-la-Ville sits in the Bas-Rhin, roughly halfway between Colmar and Strasbourg, at around 500 meters elevation on the eastern slopes of the Vosges.

The dominant Alsace AOC covers the bulk of production, with whites accounting for around 92% of output. The region also has 51 defined Grand Cru sites, each tied to a specific geology. The Grand Cru Frankstein, immediately surrounding Dambach-la-Ville, is defined by loose, free-draining granite sands and is planted predominantly with Gewurztraminer and Riesling. While Le Festival de Kamm is not a Grand Cru wine, the granite terroir of Frankstein directly shapes the mineral profile of all the Kamm estate's parcels in this area.
