Producer profile

Viña Echeverría

The Echeverría family has been a significant figure in Chilean winemaking for generations, with their estate in the Curicó Valley. Their winemaking roots date back to 1740, and in 1923, the family established their current vineyards and winery. Over the years, the Echeverrías have become pioneers in producing high-quality wines for export, transforming their winery from a bulk wine producer to a boutique, family-run operation.

Today, the Echeverría family is known for their dedication to natural winemaking. Their No Es Pituko line, which translates to "It's Not Fancy," is a testament to their philosophy of creating wines with minimal intervention. This line features wild-fermented natural wines without additives, including sulfites, bottled unfiltered and unfined. The wines are organic and vegan, showcasing the purity of the fruit and the terroir of the Curicó Valley.

The family uses sustainable farming methods and relies on pre-phylloxera rootstock, emphasizing their commitment to traditional, eco-friendly viticulture. Their wines, like No Es Pituko Cabernet Sauvignon and No Es Pituko Orange, have gained attention for their vibrant flavors and natural winemaking practices, making the Echeverría family a standout in Chile's natural wine scene.

Wine region

Curicó Valley, Chile

The Curicó Valley is one of Chile's most renowned wine regions, about 200 kilometers south of Santiago. This valley, part of Chile's Central Valley, benefits from a Mediterranean climate characterized by long, dry summers and significant diurnal temperature variation. These conditions are ideal for growing various wine grapes, allowing the region to produce high-quality wines with balanced acidity and ripe fruit flavors.

Curicó Valley's winemaking history dates back to the 19th century but gained international recognition in the late 20th century. Today, it is home to various vineyards, producing everything from bulk to boutique natural wines. The valley's vineyards are planted on well-drained, loamy soils, and the proximity to the Andes provides a cooling effect that helps preserve the freshness and acidity of the grapes.

The region is known for producing exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Merlot, but it also grows less common varieties like Carignan, Carmenère, and Syrah. Winemakers in Curicó, including natural producers like the Echeverría family, focus on sustainable practices, often using organic and biodynamic farming methods. The region's diversity in microclimates and terroir allows winemakers to experiment with different styles, from natural wines to more conventional, age-worthy bottles
