Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Ruge

Azienda Agricola Ruge is a family estate based in Santo Stefano di Valdobbiadene, on the Col Funer hill in the heart of the Prosecco DOCG Valdobbiadene zone. The estate is currently run by brothers Ruggero and Andrea Ruggeri, sons of Vittore, and the Ruggeri name is deeply embedded in the winemaking history of Valdobbiadene, traceable through several generations to an ancestor named Agostino Ruggeri. The family's roots on this hill predate the modern appellation, and the estate reflects a long-established connection to the territory.

The name Ruge is a shortening of the family name, and the estate operates separately from the larger Ruggeri winery also based in Valdobbiadene. Ruge is a small, artisanal property whose vineyards are located exclusively on Col Funer in Santo Stefano, one of the most sought-after positions within the DOCG. The vines, averaging around 25 years of age, are grown at between 820 and 1,150 ft elevation on soils of moraine, sandstone, and clay over a marine sandstone subsoil that lends the wines their characteristic minerality.

Farming is organic, and the winemaking approach prioritizes the preservation of freshness and aromatics. Grapes are hand-harvested between late September and early October, soft-pressed on arrival, and the must is allowed to settle by static decanting before fermentation begins at controlled temperatures of 59-64°F. The wine then rests for three months on the fine lees, known locally as feccia nobile, before the second fermentation takes place in sealed pressure tanks using the Charmat method. Production is small by regional standards, around 700 cases per year, keeping the wines firmly in the artisanal category.

The Primario is Ruge's flagship cuvée, bottled in the Extra Dry style and designed to express the Col Funer terroir as directly as possible. It has received recognition from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and Falstaff, among other publications.

Wine region

Veneto, Italy

The Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG zone is a strip of steep hills in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy, stretching roughly 30 miles between the towns of Conegliano to the east and Valdobbiadene to the west, in the province of Treviso. In 2019 it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its distinctive landscape of terraced hillside vineyards known as ciglioni, interspersed with forest, villages, and farmland. The DOCG was established as the highest quality tier of Prosecco production, requiring at least 85% Glera in any blend and mandating that wines be made from hillside vineyards within the zone's boundaries.

The terrain is defined by a formation known as hogbacks: sharp, spiny ridges created by ancient geological forces and subsequently shaped by glacial and marine deposits. Soils vary across the zone but are predominantly a mix of clay, limestone, sandstone, and moraine material, with calcareous marine sandstone a common substrate at many of the better hillside sites. At Ruge's Col Funer vineyard in Santo Stefano di Valdobbiadene, this marine sandstone underlies the clay and moraine topsoil, contributing natural acidity and mineral character to the Glera fruit.

The climate is temperate, sitting between the influence of the Alps to the north and the Adriatic to the south. Mild temperatures, generous summer rainfall, and significant day-night temperature variation at higher elevations allow the Glera grape to ripen gradually while retaining its characteristic freshness and aromatic profile. Santo Stefano di Valdobbiadene, where Ruge's estate is based, is considered one of the most prized sub-zones within the DOCG, with southeast-facing slopes that catch long hours of sun while remaining cooled by mountain air. The single-vineyard Riva designation and the legendary Cartizze subzone, a 107-hectare parcel also near Valdobbiadene, represent the pinnacle of the appellation.
