Tasting notes

Flora is a full-bodied Falanghina that punches well above its appellation: ripe stone fruit and exotic florals on the nose, a glycerol-like texture on the palate, and a saline, mineral finish that keeps it honest. At 14.5% ABV it carries real weight without losing the bright acidity that defines inland Campanian Falanghina.

Flora is I Pentri's top-selection Falanghina, sourced from a manual pick of the best fruit across their 10 hectares of terraced vineyards on the hillsides of Monte Taburno in Castelvenere, Benevento province. The wine is classified as Beneventano IGT. Grapes are farmed using organic and biodynamic practices with no herbicides, pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers, and harvested entirely by hand.

In the cellar, the wine is fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel and aged on the lees. It is bottled unfined with no added sulfur. The 2018 vintage shows a deep golden straw color. On the nose: crushed white peach, ripe mango, pear, and exotic florals with lemon-lime zest. The palate is full and silky in texture, driven by brisk acidity and saturating minerality with stone fruit at the core and a saline finish.

Falanghina Beneventana, the variety used here, is genetically distinct from coastal Falanghina Flegrea. Grown on the calcareous clay and sandstone hillside soils of Monte Taburno at inland Campanian elevations, it produces wines with more structure and acidity than its coastal counterpart. The Beneventano IGT designation covers the entire Benevento province, home to roughly 80% of Campania's Falanghina plantings.

I Pentri takes its name from one of the ancient Samnite tribes that inhabited this inland region of southern Italy. The estate was founded in 2002 by Dionisio Meola and Lia Falato, who brought over 20 years of prior farming experience to the project. Their son Alessandro Meola now works alongside them in vineyard and cellar.

The saline minerality and full body make this a natural match for grilled or roasted shellfish, sea bream baked in salt crust, and pasta with seafood. It also holds up well against roasted white meats and dishes with richer white sauces. Fresh buffalo mozzarella or young goat cheese work well if you want to stay in the Campania spirit.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

I Pentri

I Pentri takes its name from one of the ancient Samnite tribes that dominated the inland territory between Abruzzo and Molise. The estate is located in Castelvenere, approximately 60 kilometres inland from Naples, in the Benevento province of Campania. Dionisio Meola and Lia Falato founded the winery in 2002, drawing on over 20 years of prior experience farming this land. Their son Alessandro Meola now works alongside them in both vineyard and cellar.

The estate covers 10 hectares of terraced vineyards on the hillsides of Monte Taburno, with soils composed of clay, limestone, and sandstone. Farming follows organic and biodynamic principles with no herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, or synthetic fertilizers used. All grapes are harvested by hand, and only estate fruit is used across the full range of wines.

In the cellar, I Pentri applies minimal intervention across all wines. Fermentation uses native yeasts, and the wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. Flora specifically is fermented in stainless steel and aged on the lees, with no added sulfur. It represents a manual selection of the best Falanghina grapes from the estate.

Wine region

Campania, Italy

Sannio Beneventano occupies the inland hills of Benevento province in northern Campania, the largest wine-producing province in the region with around 10,000 hectares under vine. The landscape is defined by calcareous clay and sandstone hillside soils at elevations ranging from 200 to 650 metres, with pockets of limestone and traces of volcanic activity. The Calore, Tammaro, and Sabato rivers shape the valley floors, and the influence of Monte Taburno and the Matese massif moderates the continental inland climate, producing wines with higher structure and acidity than their coastal Campanian counterparts.

Sannio DOC was established in 1997, covering all 78 municipalities of Benevento province. A dedicated Falanghina del Sannio DOC followed in 2011, recognizing the grape's distinct character in this inland zone. The province accounts for approximately 2,261 hectares of Falanghina, roughly 80% of Campania's total. The region also produces Aglianico del Taburno DOCG reds. I Pentri's Flora is classified under the broader Beneventano IGT designation. Falanghina Beneventana, the variety grown here, is a genetically distinct biotype from the coastal Falanghina Flegrea, and expresses concentrated stone fruit, floral, and saline mineral character when farmed on these hillside soils.
