Tasting notes

This is col fondo Glera the way it was made before Prosecco went industrial: gentle bubble, a hint of lemon peel and pear, and a light yeasty grip from lees contact. The short skin maceration adds texture that keeps it interesting beyond the first sip.

Boh.lla is a col fondo-style sparkling wine made from 100% Glera grown on 30-year-old vines in the Colli Euganei hills of Veneto. Grapes were harvested in early September and spent a couple of days on skins before a short rest in vat. The wine was then transferred to bottle with a small addition of juice from the same harvest, refermented in bottle, rested on its lees, and disgorged in spring. Nothing is added at any stage.

The Colli Euganei sit roughly 60 kilometers southwest of Venice, a cluster of volcanic and limestone hills rising between 50 and 400 meters above sea level near Padua. The soils beneath Farnea's vines are basaltic and mineral-rich, the result of underwater lava flows approximately 43 million years ago. The near-Mediterranean climate brings hot, dry summers with marked day-to-night temperature swings that preserve acidity in the fruit.

Glera is known locally in the Colli Euganei as Serprino, and this expression has little in common with industrial Prosecco. Fermented with native yeasts, bottled unfiltered and unfined, Boh.lla carries the texture of its brief skin contact and the savory edge of lees aging. The bubble is gentle and persistent. Serve well chilled directly from the fridge.

Works well as an aperitivo with fried vegetables, salumi, or soft fresh cheeses. The gentle bubble and bright acidity also cut through fried fish or lightly dressed seafood. Good alongside a simple arugula salad with shaved Grana Padano.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Farnea

Marco Buratti founded Azienda Agricola Farnea in Villa di Teolo, in the heart of the Colli Euganei, after careers as a restaurant manager in Padova and a chef in New Zealand. Using a small inheritance, he purchased the farm and planted his first vines, with his inaugural vintage coming in 2007. The estate covers approximately 2.5 hectares of vines and 3 hectares of woodland within the Colli Euganei National Park, with additional vines in nearby Bettone.

The vineyards are farmed biodynamically and worked entirely by hand, with no chemical treatments. Treatments are limited to copper and sulfur as needed. Vine age averages around 50 years on the older parcels. Marco grows Glera alongside indigenous and long-established varieties including Moscato Rosa, Tocai Italico, Malvasia, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The cantina is a small room attached to Marco's house, equipped with concrete and fiberglass vats, old barrels, and little else. All wines undergo wild fermentation with native yeasts. Nothing is added at any stage of production, and wines are bottled unfiltered and unfined. Annual production runs between 8,000 and 10,000 bottles across all labels.

Wine region

Veneto, Italy

The Colli Euganei (Euganean Hills) is a compact volcanic wine region located approximately 60 kilometers southwest of Venice, near the city of Padua. The hills are the result of underwater basaltic lava flows that occurred roughly 43 million years ago, which left behind a mixed terrain of volcanic basalt, limestone, and clay covering around 3,000 hectares of vineyards. Elevations range from 50 to nearly 400 meters above sea level. The climate is near-Mediterranean, with hot dry summers and significant day-to-night temperature variation that preserves natural acidity in the grapes.

The Colli Euganei DOC covers a wide range of white and red varieties. Glera, known locally as Serprino, is permitted under the appellation and historically produced col fondo-style sparkling wines in this area long before the commercialization of Prosecco further north. The Colli Euganei Fior d'Arancio DOCG, elevated in 2011, is dedicated exclusively to Moscato Giallo. Key villages in the DOC include Teolo, Baone, and Vo. Since July 2024, the Euganean Hills have been designated a UNESCO MAB Biosphere Reserve.
