  • Style: Sparkling rosé in the pétillant naturel style; dry and light-bodied; the year on lees adds a subtle bitterness and fine, delicate bubble structure rather than the more explosive carbonation of a younger pet-nat; less primary fruit-forward than earlier releases of this cuvée
  • Grapes & terroir: 100% Syrah; sourced from the organically farmed vineyards of Domaine Le Mazel, Valvignères, Ardèche; clay and limestone soils; the vines have been tended organically for decades by Gérald and Jocelyne Oustric
  • Winemaking: Slow 12-hour direct press; fermentation started in fiberglass tanks then completed in bottle; over 12 months on lees in bottle; disgorged autumn 2024; no sulfur added at any stage; unfined, unfiltered; Vin de France classification
  • Serving temperature & decanting: Serve well chilled at 46–50°F; no decanting; pour gently to preserve the fine bubbles and manage any sediment from lees aging
  • Pairing: Tarte flambée
  • Similar to: Drinkers who enjoy light, dry sparkling rosés from the Loire Valley in the pétillant naturel style will find a familiar register here, though the Syrah base and extended lees time give this wine a slightly darker fruit profile and more textural depth

Tasting notes

Pale salmon-pink with a fine, slow bead. The nose is restrained and precise, with red cherry, dried strawberry, a hint of white pepper, and a light herbal note. On the palate, dry and lively, with a gentle phenolic grip, refreshing acidity, and a subtle bitter finish from lees aging.

Food pairings

Tarte flambée, Japanese yakitori, charcuterie, fresh goat cheese, Vietnamese summer rolls, grilled sardines, tomato bruschetta.

Product description

Anders Frederik Steen Forever and Ever Child VDF 2023 is a pétillant naturel sparkling rosé made from 100% Syrah sourced from the organically farmed vineyards of Domaine Le Mazel in Valvignères, Ardèche. The grapes were subject to a slow 12-hour direct press before fermenting in fiberglass tanks. The wine was bottled before fermentation was complete, allowing the remaining carbon dioxide to create bubbles in the bottle over winter. Anders Frederik Steen left the wine on its lees for just over a year before disgorgement in autumn 2024. No sulfur, fining, or filtration was used at any point. 12.5% ABV.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Anders Frederik Steen

Anders Frederik Steen and Anne Bruun Blauert are a Danish couple who settled permanently in Valvignères, Ardèche, in 2016 after Anders had been making wine there since 2013. Before winemaking, Anders had a career in the restaurant world in Copenhagen, first as a chef and then as a sommelier, working at Noma, Relae, and Manfreds, where he helped build one of the first entirely natural wine lists in Denmark. That background shaped his approach to wine: he does not seek to replicate the same result each vintage, but instead tastes the grapes at harvest and decides on the wine he wants to make from what is in front of him.

His first two vintages in 2013 and 2014 were made in collaboration with the Jura winemaker Jean-Marc Brignot, using grapes from Gérald and Jocelyne Oustric at Domaine Le Mazel. After Brignot left to pursue farming in Japan in 2015, Anders continued independently. He and Anne have since acquired around four hectares of their own vines in the Valgrand area outside Valvignères, planted with Grenache, Syrah, and other varieties on clay-limestone soils. They also continue to work with the Oustric family and, for white wines, with the Bannwarth family in Obermorschwihr, Alsace, where Anders vinifies on-site. Anne Bruun Blauert, who trained as an architect, brings a distinct creative sensibility to the project, evident in the label design and the expressive, unconventional names drawn from songs and poetry.

The winery's core principle, in Anders' own words, is simple: grapes and only grapes. All wines are fermented spontaneously, bottled unfined and unfiltered, and made without any additions.

Wine region

Ardèche, France

The Ardèche department lies on the western bank of the Rhône River in south-central France, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It stretches from the high volcanic plateaus of the Massif Central in the north to the warmer, more Mediterranean landscapes of the Bas-Vivarais in the south. The village of Valvignères, where Anders Frederik Steen makes wine alongside Domaine Le Mazel, sits in this southern zone, in a wide, open valley where the climate is warm and dry in summer and soils are predominantly clay and limestone with some basalt influence from the Coiron plateau nearby.

Viticulture in the Ardèche has a long history, with evidence of vine growing around the old Roman town of Alba-la-Romaine. Today, wines from the region are classified under the IGP Ardèche designation, which replaced the former Vin de Pays des Coteaux de l'Ardèche and covers reds, whites, and rosés. Grapes with strong regional footing include Grenache, Syrah, Merlot, Gamay, and the indigenous Chatus for reds, alongside Chardonnay, Viognier, Grenache Blanc, and Clairette for whites. The Ardèche also produces wine at the individual Vin de France level, as is the case with Forever and Ever Child, which allows producers maximum flexibility in grape sourcing and labelling.

Production in the Ardèche is largely dominated by cooperatives, but the southern part of the region around Valvignères has become one of the most active clusters of independent natural wine producers in France. Names like Domaine Le Mazel, Sylvain Bock, Gilles Azzoni, and more recently Anders Frederik Steen have given this area a distinct identity within the broader Ardèche wine landscape.
