Grassl Cru Wine Glass

Price: $156.00
Price:From $78.00

Cru is the aromatic red glass. It takes the same 110 mm bowl as the 1855 and pulls it in to a 64 mm rim, trading some of the 1855's volume for focus at the nose.

670 ml, aimed at single-varietal reds where the smell of the wine matters as much as the taste of it. Leon Femfert of Nittardi uses it for press events and calls it the best glass for Sangiovese on the market.

Mouth-blown lead-free crystal, 230 mm tall, dishwasher safe. Sold as a single, a pair, or a carton of six.

See here our shipping policy.

Glassware is fulfilled by our partner retailer rather than from our own warehouse, so it will not ship together with our wine selection. Order both and you will receive two parcels with two tracking numbers.

Glassware does not need a signature on delivery, which wine always does. Everything is packed for transit by the maker.

The Brand

Grassl Glass

Grassl Glass is a Swiss stemware house working the oldest way there is: the glasses are mouth-blown, not machine-pressed. The batch is glassmaking sand, soda, dolomite, potassium, potassium oxide and recycled glass, melted into a lead-free mass Grassl describes as resembling the composition of pure rock crystal.

Grassl puts the labour at twenty years of glassmaking experience to craft the collection consistently, and five artisans to produce a single stemmed glass during hot shaping, followed by slow cooling and five further finishing steps. That is why a Grassl stem can be as thin as it is and still arrive intact.

Two ranges. The Vigneron Series is shaped on the feedback of working winemakers and splits four ways by wine style. The Elemental Series is the everyday set, built around what Grassl calls the absolute essentials of wine drinking.

Glassware FAQs

Glassware is fulfilled by our partner retailer rather than from our own warehouse, so it ships on its own and will not arrive in the same box as your wine. Order both and you should expect two parcels, often on different days.

Wine requires an adult signature on delivery. Glassware does not, so it can be left at your door like any ordinary parcel.

Yes. Dishwasher safe is printed on Grassl's own carton and stated by its importer. Load the stems so nothing can knock against them and skip the top-rack clips. What breaks mouth-blown stemware is contact, not water.

If you drink mostly one style, buy the Vigneron glass for it: Mineralité for high-acid whites, Liberté for whites with weight and for Champagne, Cru for aromatic reds, 1855 for the biggest ones. If you drink across the board, the Elemental Versatile is one glass that handles red, white and rosé.

The Vigneron Series is shaped on the feedback of working winemakers and splits four ways by wine style, on a 230 mm frame. The Elemental Series is Grassl's everyday set, 214 mm and built around what it calls the absolute essentials of wine drinking. Both are mouth-blown lead-free crystal.

Yes. Grassl melts glassmaking sand, soda, dolomite, potassium, potassium oxide and recycled glass into a lead-free mass it describes as resembling the composition of pure rock crystal. The clarity comes from the batch and the slow cooling, not from the lead oxide traditional crystal relied on.
