Tasting notes

Sangiovese from volcanic soils at 450 meters in Alta Tuscia delivers something more mineral and textural than most central Italian examples at this price point. The 20-day skin maceration gives grip without heaviness, and the zero-sulfite, fiberglass-aged approach keeps the fruit bright and the finish clean.

Rossetto is a 100% Sangiovese from Corva Gialla's most vigorous plot in Lubriano, Alta Tuscia Viterbese. The vineyard sits on volcanic soils at roughly 450 meters elevation on a west-facing slope. Grapes are grown without herbicides, synthetic fertilizers, or chemical treatments, and the estate has held organic certification since 2018.

In the cellar, the harvest is destemmed and macerated on the skins for approximately 20 days with daily pump-overs or punch-downs as needed. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts. After fermentation, the wine ages in fiberglass tanks until bottling in March, with no filtration, no fining, and no added sulfites at any stage.

The result is a dry, medium-bodied red with fresh cherry and wild strawberry up front, dried herb undertones from the volcanic soil, and moderate tannins. The high natural acidity keeps the wine lively and makes it easy to drink young, though it can develop further with a few years in bottle.

Works well with vegetable-forward pasta, lentil soups, and grain dishes where you want acidity without heavy extraction. Also solid alongside semi-aged sheep's milk cheeses and cured meats. Serve slightly cool around 58-62F to keep the fruit fresh.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Corva Gialla

Corva Gialla, meaning 'yellow crow' in Italian, is a small family farm and winery in Lubriano, in the Alta Tuscia Viterbese area of Lazio, less than two kilometers from Civita di Bagnoregio and roughly 130 kilometers north of Rome. The estate covers four hectares and was established in 2007, with the vineyard planted in 2010. Winemaker Beatrice Arweiler, originally from the Rhine-Moselle region, planted the vines with guidance from Gian Marco Antonuzzi of the Le Coste estate.

Red varieties on the estate are Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo; whites include Grechetto d'Umbria, Trebbiano, and Vermentino, all grown on volcanic soils without herbicides, synthetic fertilizers, or chemical treatments. Corva Gialla has held organic certification since 2018 and also follows biodynamic principles in the vineyard. The property operates as a mixed farm with olive trees, a vegetable garden, and free-range animals.

In the cellar, all wines undergo spontaneous fermentation with no additions. No sulfites, enzymes, or activators are used at any stage. Wines are clarified by static decantation only and bottled unfiltered. Depending on the cuvee, aging takes place in fiberglass tanks or chestnut barrels. Corva Gialla has been producing wines under this approach since 2013.

Wine region

Lazio, Italy

Alta Tuscia is the northern corner of Lazio, bordering Umbria near Lake Bolsena. The landscape is defined by the Calanchi, dramatic tuff rock formations carved by erosion into deep valleys. Soils throughout the zone are of volcanic origin, rich in minerals and iron, a legacy of the ancient Etruscan heartland that once covered this territory. Elevations in the vineyard areas around Lubriano and Civita di Bagnoregio typically range from 400 to 500 meters above sea level.

The region benefits from a continental climate tempered by altitude and proximity to Lake Bolsena, which moderates summer heat and autumn temperatures. Lazio is historically associated with white wines from Malvasia and Trebbiano, but Alta Tuscia has seen a growing group of small producers working with Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo for reds, and Grechetto for whites. There is no major DOC appellation covering this corner of Lazio; most wines from the area are sold as IGT Lazio or Vino da Tavola.
