Tasting notes

Bright ruby with a translucent, light-catching depth. The nose is fresh and direct, offering red cherry, raspberry, wild herbs, and a faint stony mineral note. The palate is light-bodied and animated, with crisp acidity, gentle tannins, and a clean, pleasantly bitter finish with alpine freshness.

BodyFruitTanninAcidity
  • Style: Dry, light-bodied red with lively acidity, bright red fruit character, and a refreshing, almost alpine freshness; suitable for a light chill; more akin to a fruit-forward glou-glou style than a structured Roussillon red
  • Grapes & terroir: Carignan and Grenache Noir from organically farmed vineyards on clay-limestone and stony soils in the Roussillon, Pyrénées-Orientales; vinified at Domaine Cotzé's cellar in the Cerdagne plateau at over 1,300 metres elevation, which influences the wine's structure and freshness
  • Winemaking: Whole-cluster maceration of 2 to 3 days; spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts; aged in fibre vats; bottled unfiltered, no added sulfur
  • Serving temperature & decanting: Serve at 54–57°F, or with a light chill at around 52°F; no decanting required; best consumed within 2 to 3 years of harvest for freshness
  • Pairing: Catalan pa amb tomàquet with charcuterie
  • Similar to: A fresh, low-intervention Beaujolais village red or a lighter natural Côtes du Roussillon; both comparisons reflect the wine's fruit-forward, acid-driven style rather than its warm-climate origin

Domaine Cotzé Wilfried Garcia Transhumància Rouge 2024 is a dry red wine made from a blend of Carignan and Grenache Noir, sourced from organically farmed vineyards in the Roussillon region of southern France. Winemaker Wilfried Garcia harvests the grapes in Roussillon and transports them to his cellar in the Cerdagne plateau in the French Pyrenees, at over 1,300 metres elevation, where all vinification takes place. The grapes undergo a short whole-cluster maceration with spontaneous fermentation, are aged in fibre tanks, and bottled unfiltered. Domaine Cotzé Wilfried Garcia Transhumància Rouge 2024 is a light, fresh, and mineral red. Vin de France.

Pa amb tomàquet with charcuterie, grilled sardines, Korean bibimbap, charcuterie board, roasted chicken, pizza margherita, mushroom tart.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Domaine Cotzé

Domaine Cotzé is the project of Wilfried Garcia, born and raised in Enveitg in the Cerdagne, a high-altitude Catalan plateau in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Garcia grew up outdoors, worked in hospitality and restaurants, and came to wine relatively late. His interest deepened enough to take him to Roussillon to work with Tom Lubbe at Domaine Matassa for two seasons, where he gained hands-on experience in natural, low-intervention winemaking. After that, he returned to his mountains with the intention of building a winery at altitude.

In 2020 Garcia purchased and planted 2 hectares of vines at around 1,340 metres in the Cerdagne, which he believes makes his estate the highest vineyard in France. The variety selection reflects both the Catalan heritage of the site (Grenache, Carignan) and his fascination with cool-climate varieties more typically found further north (Pinot Noir, Gamay, Mondeuse, Savagnin, Chardonnay, Jacquère, Chasselas). Alongside the vines, he grows orchards of apple, pear, and quince trees for ciders and juices, practicing polyculture on his land. He also tends a vegetable garden, including potatoes.

While these estate vines come to maturity, Garcia has produced his wines as a négociant under the Transhumància label, sourcing organically farmed fruit from trusted growers in Roussillon — including from Domaine Les Salicaires in Canet-en-Roussillon — then transporting the grapes up to his mountain cellar for vinification and bottling. The name Transhumància is the Catalan word for transhumance: the seasonal movement of livestock from lowland to highland pastures. For Garcia, it reflects both the literal journey of the grapes from coast to mountains and his own trajectory as a winemaker.

Wine region

Languedoc–Roussillon, France

Roussillon occupies the southernmost corner of metropolitan France, in the Pyrénées-Orientales department, bordered by Spain to the south and west and by the Mediterranean to the east. It is historically and culturally Catalan, sharing more with the landscapes, languages, and food traditions of Catalonia than with the rest of France. The region is defined by rugged mountain terrain — the Pyrenees to the west and the Corbières massif to the north — and a hot, dry Mediterranean climate moderated in the best vineyard sites by Atlantic-influenced winds and significant elevation.

Viticultural conditions in Roussillon are demanding. Annual rainfall is among the lowest in France, and summer temperatures frequently exceed 35°C. Yet the diversity of soil types, from the granite and schist of the Agly and Maury valleys to the clay-limestone plains around Perpignan and the stony soils of the Opoul plateau, allows producers to express a wide range of styles. Carignan and Grenache are the dominant red varieties, both deeply rooted in Catalan viticulture on both sides of the Pyrenees, and in the hands of low-intervention producers they can produce wines of striking freshness and precision.

The Cerdagne plateau, where Domaine Cotzé's cellar sits at over 1,300 metres, is not a traditional wine appellation in its own right. It is a high-altitude basin on the Spanish border, better known for skiing and livestock farming. But this elevation is precisely what gives the Transhumància wines their character: the cool cellar environment and mountain-driven freshness carry through into wines sourced from warmer Roussillon vineyards below.
