Tasting notes

Zibibbo vinified dry is a rare thing, and Gaudioso does it at only 12% ABV without sacrificing the grape's intensity. The nose delivers yellow flowers, apricot, and candied citrus, while the palate stays dry and mineral, grounded by the volcanic soils of Partanna at 250 meters. Only 1,300 bottles are made each year, making this a genuinely scarce expression of one of Sicily's oldest aromatic varieties.

Gaudioso's Zibibbo is 100% Zibibbo (Muscat of Alexandria) grown on volcanic soils at approximately 250 meters elevation in the hills of Partanna, province of Trapani, southwest Sicily. The wine carries the IGP Terre Siciliane designation and is produced in tiny quantities of around 1,300 bottles per year. The vineyard is farmed biodynamically with no synthetic inputs, using only green manure, compost, and copper-sulfur treatments when needed.

Fermentation is spontaneous in stainless steel with no temperature control. The wine rests in stainless steel until April after harvest, then is bottled unfined with minimal added sulfites. No oak. The result is a dry white that expresses Zibibbo's naturally high terpene content cleanly and without manipulation.

In the glass it shows golden yellow. The nose leads with yellow flowers, candied citrus, and apricot, with a balsamic undercurrent. On the palate it is medium-bodied, aromatic, and dry, with the grape's characteristic mineral and slightly saline finish. Serve well chilled at 55F.

Imported by Critical Mass Selections.

Pair with shellfish, grilled branzino, or fried calamari, where the wine's salinity and floral aromatics complement the ocean flavors. It also works alongside mild fresh cheeses and vegetable-based antipasti. The aromatic intensity holds up to spiced dishes, so chickpea-based Sicilian street food like panelle is a natural match.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Gaudioso

Azienda Agricola Gaudioso is a family farm in Partanna, province of Trapani, that has been in the same family for more than six generations. For most of that history the family grew grapes and olives without bottling their own wine. The decision to produce and bottle under their own label is recent, with the first fully clean biodynamic harvest arriving in 2018.

The farm spans vineyards and olive groves across the hilly areas of Partanna and Salaparuta. Sheep are also raised on the property. The Gaudioso family works the land without synthetic fertilizers or chemical pesticides, relying on green manure, compost, and the biodynamic preparations to maintain soil health, using copper and sulfur only when disease pressure requires it. The transition to biodynamics was guided by mentor Michele Lorenzetti, a biologist and oenologist.

Winemaking follows the same minimalist logic as the farming. All wines ferment spontaneously with native yeast in stainless steel with no temperature control. They age on steel until April after harvest, then are bottled unfined with minimal sulfites added. No oak is used in the Zibibbo. Annual production across all wines is approximately 1,300 bottles per label.

Wine region

Sicily, Italy

Partanna is a hillside commune in the province of Trapani, southwest Sicily, situated at roughly 414 meters elevation above the Belice and Modione valleys, about 58 kilometers southeast of Trapani city. The province of Trapani is the most heavily planted wine-producing province in Sicily, benefiting from ample sunlight and a warm Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters. Rainfall concentrates in winter, leaving vines to manage summer drought on their own, a condition well-suited to drought-resistant varieties like Zibibbo.

Soils across the Trapani province range from sandy loam to calcareous clay, but the Gaudioso vineyard sites sit on volcanic soils at 250 meters elevation. The relevant appellation for this wine is IGP Terre Siciliane, a flexible designation that covers the whole island and is commonly used by producers working with non-traditional varieties or farming methods that fall outside stricter DOC rules. Zibibbo also appears in Pantelleria DOC, Erice DOC, and Sicilia DOC expressions across the island, but Gaudioso's version comes from the Sicilian mainland hills rather than the island of Pantelleria.
