Tasting notes

This is a dry, lightly fizzy rosé pét-nat with amplified strawberry and red berry fruit, an earthy backbone, and bright acidity that keeps it from ever feeling heavy. The méthode ancestrale and disgorging give it fine, lively bubbles without the yeasty sediment of an undisgorged pét-nat — it drinks clean and vivid.

Wonder Womanne is a sparkling rosé pét-nat from Anne Paillet's Autour de l'Anne project in the Languedoc. The wine is a blend of Cinsault, Syrah, and Grenache grown on 1 hectare of biodynamic vines with limestone and red clay soils, averaging 20 years of age, farmed on Christophe Beau's estate in the Coteaux du Languedoc near Pic Saint-Loup. It is labeled Vin de France and comes in at 12% ABV.

Winemaking follows méthode ancestrale: grapes are hand-harvested, given a very short maceration on the skins in concrete tank with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts, then bottled before fermentation is complete so the secondary fermentation finishes in the bottle. The wine is subsequently disgorged, unfined, unfiltered, and produced with no added sulfites.

After fermentation in Languedoc, Anne transports the wine to the Loire to complete its aging in the cellar of her husband, Gregory Leclerc of Chahut et Prodiges in the Touraine. Anne describes the resulting style as lighter and fresher than what you would typically expect from Languedoc — she calls them 'Loiredoc' wines. The dark pink color, fine bubbles, dry palate, and red-fruit driven profile reflect that cross-regional approach.

Works well with charcuterie, fresh goat cheese, and herb-forward salads. The dry, lively acidity cuts through prosciutto or smoked salmon without overwhelming them. Also a solid match for a spicy tuna poke bowl or grilled shrimp with lemon.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Autour de l'Anne

Anne Paillet spent her early adult years working as a roadie for UK bands including Radiohead, Blur, and The Verve before settling into corporate life at a large industrial company in La Défense, the financial district of Paris. A serious car accident in 2010 prompted her to leave that career. She joined her husband, Gregory Leclerc, a natural winemaker and founder of Chahut et Prodiges in the Touraine area of the Loire Valley.

Seeking to make wines distinct from her husband's, Paillet turned to the Languedoc. Her friend Christophe Beau, a biodynamic producer in the Coteaux du Languedoc who had farmed under Nature et Progrès certification since 1985 and held Demeter certification for approximately fifteen years, offered her a partnership on his 6-hectare estate. Paillet rented 2.5 hectares of that land. Autour de l'Anne was founded in 2011 with the help of Christophe and his son Victor. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically, with hand harvesting and soils of limestone and red clay.

Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks without SO2. For the Wonder Womanne specifically, a very short maceration precedes tank fermentation, which is then completed in the bottle using méthode ancestrale before disgorging. After fermentation, Anne transports the wines to the Loire to finish aging in Gregory Leclerc's cellar. No fining, no filtration, no added sulfites across the range. Paillet intentionally picks early to avoid high alcohol and preserve the lighter, fresher style she describes as 'Loiredoc.'

Wine region

Languedoc, France

The Languedoc stretches along the southern French coast from the Rhône delta to the Pyrenees. The area around Pic Saint-Loup, located roughly 30 kilometers north of Montpellier, is the northernmost sub-zone of the appellation and among its most distinctive. The 658-meter Pic Saint-Loup mountain and the adjacent Montagne de l'Hortus create a Mediterranean climate tempered by continental influences: hot summers, cool nights driven by Cévennes winds, and significantly more rainfall than the coastal plains. Vineyard soils in the area are predominantly limestone and red clay, with marl and dolomite also present, which promotes freshness and acidity in the wines.

The Pic Saint-Loup AOC, granted independent appellation status in 2017, covers red and rosé wines only, with Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre as the primary varieties. Cinsault and Carignan are permitted in smaller proportions. Wines declassified outside AOC rules — including those farmed biodynamically by natural producers who prefer flexibility — are labeled Vin de France, as is the case with Wonder Womanne. The broader Languedoc-Roussillon region is one of France's largest wine-producing areas and has become a significant hub for natural and biodynamic winemaking.
