Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Meinklang

Meinklang is a Demeter-certified biodynamic estate operated by the Michlits family in Pamhagen, a village in the Neusiedlersee area of Burgenland, within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of National Park Neusiedlersee. The name combines the German words for "my" and "sound," reflecting the family's commitment to working in harmony with the land rather than against it. What began as a 60-hectare organic farm in the late 1980s has grown into one of Europe's largest biodynamic operations, spanning approximately 2,500 hectares across the Austrian-Hungarian border.

The estate is run by the Michlits brothers: Werner manages the vineyards and cellar alongside his wife Angela; Hannes oversees the cultivation of ancient grains; and Lukas tends the livestock. Their parents, Anneliese and Werner Senior, made the shift to organic farming when such practices were far from the regional norm, and the estate earned its Demeter biodynamic certification in 2003. After the fall of communism opened the Hungarian border in 1989, the family expanded across the border to build what is now a fully integrated agricultural ecosystem.

Integration is central to how Meinklang operates. A herd of more than 300 Angus and Aubrac cattle, visible on every wine label, provides composted manure that replaces synthetic fertilizer across the vineyards. Sheep, pigs, and chickens contribute to soil biodiversity, while ancient grain varieties including Einkorn, Emmer, and Spelt are grown alongside the vines. The family has also founded a Waldorf school in the region and produces a Demeter-certified beer from heritage wheat.

In the cellar, Meinklang practices strict minimal intervention: spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, no chaptalization or reverse osmosis, aging in stainless steel and handmade concrete eggs, and bottling without fining or filtration. The Nacht series sits among the estate's most focused releases, exploring individual grape varieties grown on their biodynamic land.

Wine region

Burgenland, Austria

Burgenland sits in eastern Austria along the Hungarian border, occupying the western edge of the Pannonian Plain. It is the country's warmest wine region, shaped by a continental climate with hot, dry summers, mild autumns, and cold winters. The region's defining geographic feature is Lake Neusiedl, a shallow steppe lake roughly 22 miles long and no deeper than 6 ft in most places. The lake moderates temperatures throughout the growing season, trapping warmth during the day and releasing it at night, while also generating the autumn humidity that enables noble rot in certain zones along its western shore.

Soils across Burgenland are varied and often complex. In the Neusiedlersee sub-region, where Meinklang is based, sandy loam dominates, mixed with rocky topsoil and volcanic deposits including basalt. This combination drains freely and warms quickly, well suited to red varieties that benefit from heat accumulation. Further south in Mittelburgenland, heavy black soils rich in iron-bearing clay produce the concentrated, full-bodied Blaufränkisch for which that zone is internationally recognized.

Red varieties define Burgenland's identity. Blaufränkisch, the region's most celebrated indigenous grape, thrives across all four sub-regions and produces wines that range from peppery and firm to rich and age-worthy. Zweigelt, Austria's most widely planted red, is common in Neusiedlersee, where it is frequently blended with Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent. International varieties including Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and Merlot have also established a foothold, particularly at estates that farm biodynamically and focus on site expression.

Burgenland has become a hub for Austria's natural wine movement. The region's dry, sunny climate reduces disease pressure and makes organic and biodynamic viticulture practical, while a growing community of producers has embraced low-intervention winemaking from vineyard to bottle.
