Tasting notes

This is a Roussillon red that leans into freshness rather than power: the direct-press Syrah, Carignan, and Grenache give bright red fruit and herbaceous garrigue, while the 10-day Mourvèdre maceration adds just enough grip and a faint balsamic depth. It drinks like a Mediterranean table wine should: easy, savoury, and honest about where it comes from.

Morango is a four-grape red from Tutti Frutti Ananas, sourced primarily from the sector of Saint-André in the Banyuls-sur-Mer area of Roussillon, declassified to Vin de France rather than labeled under the Collioure AOC. The blend is Syrah, Carignan, Grenache Noir, and Mourvèdre grown on organic-farmed vineyards over schist, sand, and quartz soils along the Côte Vermeille, where steep terraced slopes keep yields very low.

In the cellar, the Syrah, Carignan, and Grenache are direct pressed, while the Mourvèdre receives 10 days of skin maceration. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts. The wine is aged in stainless steel and concrete tanks with no fining, no filtration, and little to no added sulfur.

Tutti Frutti Ananas was launched in 2017 as a negociant project by Manuel di Vecchi Staraz (Vinyer de la Ruca), Zé Tafé (La Cave des Nomades), and Joachim Roque (Domaine Carterole), all based in Banyuls-sur-Mer. The goal was to produce an affordable, high-volume-by-their-standards expression of the same Roussillon terroirs that yield their serious, low-production estate wines. The name Morango means strawberry in Portuguese.

The result is a light-on-its-feet Mediterranean red with sunkissed red fruit, savoury garrigue, a balsamic note, and a faint seaside salinity. At 13% ABV it drinks easily and benefits from a light chill in warmer months.

A natural alongside grilled lamb chops, merguez, or a Provençal ratatouille. The garrigue and salt notes make it work well with olive-marinated chicken or a plate of aged sheep's cheese. Serve slightly cool at around 58-62F.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Tutti Frutti Ananas

Tutti Frutti Ananas is a negociant project launched in 2017 by Manuel di Vecchi Staraz of Vinyer de la Ruca, Zé Tafé of La Cave des Nomades, and Joachim Roque of Domaine Carterole, all based in Banyuls-sur-Mer. The project came about when Joachim retrieved an additional eight hectares of vines and proposed to his collaborators to start a new venture rather than send the fruit to the cooperative. The fruit for Morango comes primarily from the sector of Saint-André.

All farming is certified organic. The vineyards sit on combinations of schist, sand, and quartz soils at elevations up to 400 metres. Manuel di Vecchi Staraz, originally from Tuscany, leads winemaking. Under his own Vinyer de la Ruca label he produces tiny quantities of highly concentrated estate wine from steep schist slopes; Tutti Frutti Ananas works from slightly higher-yielding sites to make wines designed for everyday drinking.

Cellar work across the Tutti Frutti Ananas range is minimal by design. Fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts. The wines are raised in stainless steel and concrete tanks. No fining or filtration is applied. Sulfur is used only at bottling when Manuel judges it necessary for stability, and many cuvées go out with none added.

Wine region

Roussillon, France

The Collioure and Banyuls AOC area sits at the southern tip of France in the Roussillon district, where the Pyrenees descend steeply to the Mediterranean coast along the Côte Vermeille. The appellation covers four communes: Collioure, Port-Vendres, Banyuls-sur-Mer, and Cerbère. Vineyards rise from sea level up to around 400 metres in altitude, with over a third planted on slopes exceeding 50% incline. The dominant soil is Cambrian brown schist, which forces deep root development and produces wines with distinctive minerality. The climate is Mediterranean: hot, dry summers moderated in the evenings by mountain winds, and regular ventilation from the Tramontane wind that limits disease pressure in the vineyards.

The Collioure AOC gained recognition in 1971 as Roussillon's first dry wine appellation, sharing its exact geographic footprint with the Banyuls AOC for fortified vins doux naturels. Red Collioure must contain at least 60% Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre combined, with Carignan and Cinsault permitted up to 30%. Many producers, including Tutti Frutti Ananas, intentionally declassify to Vin de France for greater flexibility. The steep terraced vineyards, known locally as feixas, require entirely manual viticulture. Yields are among the lowest in France, which historically produced concentrated, structured wines; the Tutti Frutti Ananas approach instead targets a lighter, more drinkable style from the same soils.
