Producer profile

Vin de Lagamba

Alanna Lagamba is a rising winemaker known for her bold, experimental approach to natural winemaking. Originally from Toronto, Canada, she began her wine journey while working in Berlin, where she met German winemaker Martin Wörner in the Rheinhessen region. In 2019, Alanna made her first wine, Frauen Power, a sparkling red blend inspired by Lambrusco, using Dornfelder grapes. Her winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, organic farming, and using no added sulfites, creating lively, expressive wines that reflect the unique terroir of Rheinhessen.

Alanna draws inspiration from her Italian heritage and her passion for strong women, which is reflected in the name Frauen Power, which is dedicated to the powerful women in her life. Her wines are praised for their freshness, vibrant flavors, and playful spirit. She often blends unusual varieties. She also experiments with skin contact techniques.

Wine region

Rheinhessen, Germany

The Rheinhessen wine region in southwestern Germany is the country's largest wine-producing area, covering around 26,500 hectares. Situated along the Rhine River, it benefits from a mild, dry climate, which is ideal for growing a variety of grape types. The region is bordered by the Rhine to the north and east, with hills and valleys creating diverse microclimates across the vineyards. Rheinhessen is known for both traditional and modern winemaking. Historically, it was dominated by mass production, but in recent decades, a renaissance has taken place with a focus on quality. Many winemakers are now experimenting with natural and organic techniques, producing world-class wines. The region is renowned for Riesling, but other grape varieties such as Silvaner, Dornfelder, Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder), and Pinot Gris (Grauburgunder) also thrive here.

The soils are diverse, ranging from limestone to loess, sand, and clay, contributing to the unique character of the wines. The area's innovative younger generation of winemakers, often embracing organic and biodynamic farming, have played a key role in elevating the region's reputation. Rheinhessen has become known for producing vibrant white wines with bright acidity, minerality, and fresh fruit flavors, particularly in its Rieslings. The region's diverse terroirs and progressive winemaking culture are helping to reshape its global image as a center for top-tier, exciting wines
