Lard was standard in every kitchen until roughly 1960, and pastry has never fully recovered from losing it. It makes a shorter, flakier crust than butter because it has no water in it.

Fatworks make theirs from pastured pork, kettle-rendered slowly and with nothing added. Clean and mild rather than porky, which is what separates a good lard from the block in the supermarket.

Whole30 approved. Net wt 14 oz (396 g).

You will receive tracking information in 3-4 business days. Shipping time depends on location and on the shipping service selected at checkout.

The Brand

Fatworks

Fatworks makes the cooking fats that were standard in every kitchen until the middle of the last century and then spent fifty years being told they were the problem: duck fat, pork lard, beef tallow.

They render in kettles, the slow traditional way, with no preservatives, and they call themselves fattitude adjusters, which tells you the tone. Based in Colorado, working with named farms.

Pantry FAQs

Pantry items are fulfilled by our partner retailer in California, so they ship on their own and will not arrive in the same box as your wine. Order both and you should expect two parcels, often on different days.

You will receive tracking for the pantry parcel within 3-4 business days.

Wine requires an adult signature on delivery. Pantry items do not, so they can be left at your door like any ordinary parcel.

Yes. Nothing here is tied to a wine purchase. Shipping for pantry items is calculated separately at checkout.

Most of what we carry is shelf stable until it is opened, and would rather sit in a cool dark cupboard than on a sunny counter. Anything that needs refrigerating once opened says so on the label.

Email us with your order number and a photo of the problem and we will make it right.

These are things we actually cook with, picked by the same people who pick the wine. A good bottle tends to want something on the table next to it, and this is the shortlist we would hand a friend who asked.
