Tasting notes

This pet nat delivers everything Chenin Blanc does best in a fizzy format: ripe pear and green apple fruit, a streak of citrus, and the limestone-driven mineral snap that Noizay clay-limestone soils consistently produce. Ninety-year-old vines, zero added SO2, and 12 months in barrel before bottling give it more depth and texture than most pet nats in its price range.

La Bulle de Facteur is a pétillant naturel made from 100% Chenin Blanc grown on clay and limestone soils in the Noizay commune of Vouvray, Loire Valley. The vines average 90 years old and are farmed organically with biodynamic preparations. Land is plowed by horse and grapes are harvested by hand.

The wine is direct pressed and fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in 400-litre barrels. After 12 months in barriques, it is bottled before fermentation completes, allowing the second fermentation to finish in bottle via méthode ancestrale — with no added yeast, no added sugar, no fining, and no filtration. Zero SO2 added.

Because the méthode ancestrale process does not conform to Vouvray AOC sparkling wine regulations, this wine is classified as Vin de France. It is the natural and lower-intervention label of Fabien Brutout and Mathieu Cosme, whose family domaine (Domaine de Beaumont) is one of the estates revitalizing Vouvray's sparkling wine category.

Expect a pale straw color with lively fine bubbles, a fragrant nose of apple, pear, citrus, and yellow flowers, and a mineral, wet-stone undercurrent that reflects the tuffeau and clay-limestone subsoils. Residual sugar is below 1 g/L — fully dry.

Works well as an aperitif with oysters, fresh goat cheese, or rillettes. The high acidity and fine mousse cut through rich fish dishes like beurre blanc-sauced pike perch. Also a solid match for lightly smoked charcuterie or a simple green salad with vinaigrette.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Domaine le Facteur

Domaine le Facteur is the low-intervention label created in 2013 by Fabien Brutout in collaboration with Mathieu Cosme, whose family has farmed in Noizay — the easternmost commune of the Vouvray appellation — for five generations. Mathieu took over the family estate, Domaine de Beaumont, from his father in 2005. Before that he worked at Domaine Huet, one of Vouvray's most respected estates. Fabien Brutout joined Mathieu in 2008 after a two-year apprenticeship with Sébastien Brunet in Vouvray. In 2013, the two launched Le Facteur as a distinct, more playful range of wines — the name referencing the postmen of the 1920s and 1940s who delivered mail by bicycle in a culture where offering the postman a glass of wine at every stop was common practice.

The estate works 11 hectares of vines across Noizay and surrounding parcels. The domaine is certified organic and uses biodynamic preparations. Vineyard soils are plowed by horse, and all grapes are harvested by hand. The Chenin Blanc vines used for La Bulle de Facteur average 90 years old and grow on 2 hectares of clay-limestone soils. No chemical inputs are used in the vineyard.

La Bulle de Facteur is made via méthode ancestrale: Chenin Blanc is direct pressed, then fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in 400-litre barrels. After 12 months in barriques, the wine is bottled before fermentation finishes, completing its second fermentation in bottle without any added sugar or yeast. The wine is not fined, not filtered, and no SO2 is added. Because this process does not satisfy the timeline requirements of the Vouvray AOC sparkling wine designation, it is released as Vin de France.

Wine region

Loire Valley, France

Vouvray is an AOC on the right bank of the Loire River, east of the city of Tours in the Touraine district. The appellation spans eight communes and is dedicated almost exclusively to Chenin Blanc, known locally as Pineau de la Loire. Vineyards sit on a plateau above the river, with south-facing slopes in shallow valleys providing optimal sun exposure. The climate falls between maritime and continental: Atlantic influence moderates temperatures while continental conditions drive vintage variation, with cooler years favoring dry and sparkling wines and warmer years enabling sweet moelleux production.

Soils in Vouvray are defined by tuffeau, a soft porous limestone formed roughly 90 million years ago during the Cretaceous period. Two forms exist: the firmer tuffeau blanc and the softer, sandier tuffeau jaune. These chalk beds are topped with clay-siliceous and clay-limestone layers depending on the site. The combination of high-porosity subsoil and naturally high Chenin Blanc acidity gives Vouvray wines their characteristic minerality and aging potential. The appellation produces still wines ranging from bone dry to botrytis-affected sweet, as well as sparkling wines — both pétillant and mousseux — with sparkling accounting for over half of total production in some years.
