  • Style: Dry, light-bodied rosé with a delicate, translucent peach-pink colour; the Nebbiolo-driven blend gives the wine a floral, mineral character that is rare in Italian rosato; designed for freshness and immediate drinking rather than extended cellaring
  • Grapes & terroir: Approximately 85% Nebbiolo, 10% Barbera, 5% Dolcetto; younger estate vines (at least 10 years old) from organically farmed parcels across Barolo, La Morra, Novello, and Serralunga d'Alba; high-elevation sites at 350–400 metres; harvested no later than mid-September, earlier than the estate's red wine harvest, to retain acidity and aromatic brightness
  • Winemaking: Saignée method on the Nebbiolo component; brief skin contact then gentle press for Barbera and Dolcetto; cool stainless steel fermentation; no malolactic fermentation; brief lees contact for texture; bottled young in January to preserve freshness and fruit definition; certified organic
  • Serving temperature & decanting: Serve at 46–50°F; no decanting needed; ideal as an aperitivo or throughout a light meal; drink within one to two years of the vintage
  • Pairing: Vitello tonnato (Piedmontese veal with tuna sauce)

G. D. Vajra Rosabella Rosato 2024 is a dry still rosé made from a blend of Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto sourced from younger organically farmed estate vines across the communes of Barolo, La Morra, Novello, and Serralunga d'Alba. The Nebbiolo component is vinified by saignée, with the Barbera and Dolcetto undergoing a brief skin contact before gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place at cool temperatures in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation, preserving freshness and aromatic lift. G. D. Vajra Rosabella Rosato 2024 is bottled young on light lees. 12% ABV. Vino Rosato, Piemonte.

Vitello tonnato, Japanese sashimi, grilled sea bream, Niçoise salad, prosciutto di Parma, summer vegetable frittata, fresh ricotta with herbs.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

G. D. Vajra

G. D. Vajra is a family estate based in Vergne, the highest hamlet in the Comune di Barolo, at around 400 metres elevation in the Langhe hills of southern Piedmont. The winery is named for Giuseppe Domenico Vajra, father of founder Aldo Vajra, who established the estate formally in 1972. Aldo began working the family's vineyards as a teenager in 1968, and by 1971 had secured one of Piedmont's earliest organic certifications — a pioneering decision at a time when such practices were virtually unknown in the region. His first commercial vintage in 1972 proved to be one of the worst of the twentieth century, yet he continued farming and refining his methods through the following decades.

The Rosabella Rosato takes its name from Milena Vajra's mother, Rosa, known affectionately as Bella Mama Rosa. The wine was first produced between 2004 and 2007 and has been made every year since, drawing on the estate's younger vines across multiple communes. It sits alongside the Barolo range as a counterpoint: lighter, immediately accessible, and designed for early drinking rather than cellaring.

Today G. D. Vajra farms approximately 40 hectares across Barolo, Novello, Sinio, and Serralunga d'Alba, with additional stewardship of the Luigi Baudana estate in Serralunga since 2009. Aldo and his wife Milena work alongside their three children: Giuseppe oversees winemaking, Francesca manages administration and communications, and Isidoro handles vineyard management. The estate holds organic certification, SNQPI sustainable farming certification (2016), and Equalitas responsible farming accreditation (2022).

Wine region

Piedmont, Italy

Piedmont occupies the northwestern corner of Italy, bordered by the Alps to the north and west, the Apennines to the south, and the Po River plain to the east. It is one of Italy's most diverse wine-producing regions, home to more DOC and DOCG appellations than any other Italian region, and the source of some of the country's most age-worthy red wines. The Langhe hills, running southwest of the city of Alba, form the geographical and viticultural heart of the region, containing the Barolo and Barbaresco DOCG zones alongside a range of DOC appellations for Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo, and Langhe blends.

Rosato production has historically been a secondary consideration in Piedmont compared to the prestige attached to the region's long-lived reds. However, the same grape varieties that underpin Barolo — Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto — translate well into fresh, aromatic rosé when harvested early and handled carefully. Nebbiolo in particular, despite producing deeply tannic reds when allowed full skin maceration, yields highly perfumed, lightly coloured rosé through the saignée method, retaining its characteristic floral aromatics and mineral character in a lighter, more accessible format.

The high-elevation vineyards around Vergne and across the communes of Barolo, La Morra, Novello, and Serralunga d'Alba, where the Vajra estate holds its parcels, enjoy a continental climate moderated by altitude. Cool nights during the growing season preserve acidity and aromatic compounds, and harvesting for rosé production in late August and early September — weeks before the red wine harvest — captures the grapes at a point of freshness that is essential to the style. The Piedmontese autumn fog, the nebbia, descends later and plays a less decisive role for rosato than it does for Barolo.
