The hot sauce Woon keeps on the pass at its two Los Angeles rooms, made from Mama Fong's recipe for one specific job: adding a kick and cutting the savoury weight of a rich dish.

Fermented Fresno pepper mash, vinegar and garlic. That makes it bright and sharp rather than smoky or sweet, at a medium heat that does not stop you eating.

Woon puts it on noodles, rice, chicken wings, eggs, avocado toast, pizza, soups and tacos, which is close to admitting it goes on anything.

The Brand

Woon Kitchen

Woon began as a family pop-up in a Koreatown alley, run on vacation days for three years before it was ever a restaurant. Keegan Fong eventually left a marketing job to open the first room in Historic Filipinotown. There is now a second in Pasadena.

The cooking is his mother's. Julie Chen Fong, called Mama Fong because she took care of everyone, was born in Shanghai and taught herself to cook Shanghainese and Cantonese food at home. What started as hot pot nights and family dinners turned into a menu of wok-tossed noodles, fishcakes, pork belly and five-spice wings.

The bottled sauces come out of that same kitchen. They are not a separate retail line built for a shelf, they are what the two restaurants cook with every day, which is why they behave like a finished dish rather than a condiment.

Pantry FAQs

Pantry items are fulfilled by our partner retailer in California, so they ship on their own and will not arrive in the same box as your wine. Order both and you should expect two parcels, often on different days.

You will receive tracking for the pantry parcel within 3-4 business days.

Wine requires an adult signature on delivery. Pantry items do not, so they can be left at your door like any ordinary parcel.

Yes. Nothing here is tied to a wine purchase. Shipping for pantry items is calculated separately at checkout.

Most of what we carry is shelf stable until it is opened, and would rather sit in a cool dark cupboard than on a sunny counter. Anything that needs refrigerating once opened says so on the label.
