WHY WE LIKE THIS WINE

Chenin Blanc anchors this blend with crisp acidity, while Roussanne contributes aromatic richness and body. Verdelho adds exotic fruit notes and textural depth. Serve chilled at 46-50°F; no decanting needed. Pairs well with bobotie. Similar to a textured Rhône white blend or a richer style of South African Chenin Blanc, but with more aromatic complexity from the multi-varietal approach.

LIGHT BODYFULL BODY
Product Description

New Dawn White is a South African white blend crafted by winemaker Rüdger van Wyk, founder of New Dawn Wine Company. This Western Cape wine blends 54% Chenin Blanc, 42% Roussanne, and 4% Verdelho from certified-sustainable vineyards across the region. Van Wyk, a Cape Winemakers Guild alumnus and former head winemaker at Stark-Condé, applies minimal intervention techniques to let the fruit express itself. New Dawn White 2024 represents van Wyk's vision of accessible, everyday wines that don't compromise on quality—designed for the dinner table, not the cellar.

Tasting notes

Pale gold with bright highlights. The nose offers stone fruit, citrus blossom, and subtle tropical notes from the Verdelho. On the palate, fresh pear and white peach meet lively acidity, with the Roussanne lending a round, textured mouthfeel. Finishes clean with lingering fruit and a mineral edge.

Food pairings

Bobotie, grilled prawns, roast chicken, Thai green curry, sushi, goat cheese salad, vegetable tempura, pork belly.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package gets returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee to be determined based on shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive, we are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to re-route a package after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancelling fee – the amount depends on how big the order is. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat/frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. please let us know should you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Producer profile

New Dawn

Rüdger van Wyk launched New Dawn Wine Company in 2024 as his first solo project after building a reputation as one of South Africa's most accomplished young winemakers. Born in George on South Africa's south coast, van Wyk studied at Stellenbosch University and graduated in 2013. The Cape Winemakers Guild Protégé programme proved instrumental in shaping his career, providing mentorship and opportunities in an industry where transformation remained limited.

Van Wyk served as head winemaker at Stark-Condé in Stellenbosch's Jonkershoek Valley, where he earned the 2018 Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year award. His work there included launching Kara Tara wines in partnership with José Condé. Time spent training in Burgundy refined his approach to precision winemaking and his understanding of how minimal intervention allows terroir to speak.

After leaving Stark-Condé in 2023, van Wyk took a consulting role at Doolhof Wine Estate in Wellington in January 2024. That same year, he partnered with US importer Baobab Wines to bring New Dawn to international markets. The first vintage was bottled in December 2024. In November 2024, van Wyk also opened Novel Coffee and Wine Bar in Cape Town's Salt River neighborhood.

New Dawn sources sustainably farmed fruit from across the Western Cape, including old bush vine Chenin Blanc from Kaapzicht in Stellenbosch and Syrah from Breedekloof. Van Wyk's winemaking philosophy emphasizes honesty over manipulation—native yeast fermentations, minimal sulfur, and patient aging create wines with texture, tension, and bright acidity. His OG Chenin Blanc 2024 earned 96 points from Greg Sherwood MW.

The portfolio spans approachable everyday wines to single-vineyard bottlings, all reflecting van Wyk's belief that the best wines are the ones you actually drink. Explore New Dawn and other natural wine best sellers to discover South Africa's new generation of winemakers.

Wine region

Breedekloof , South Africa

The Western Cape provides the foundation for New Dawn White 2024, encompassing South Africa's most celebrated wine-growing areas. This vast region stretches from the Atlantic and Indian Ocean coastlines inland to mountain ranges that create diverse microclimates suited to dozens of grape varieties. Winemaking here dates to 1659, making South Africa one of the oldest wine-producing countries outside Europe.

Within the Western Cape, distinct districts offer radically different growing conditions. Stellenbosch, South Africa's most famous appellation, sits at the foot of the Simonsberg and Helderberg mountains. Decomposed granite soils and Mediterranean climate produce structured wines with natural acidity. Swartland to the north has become a hub for natural winemaking, where old bush vines dig deep into Malmesbury shale soils. The region's dry-farmed vineyards yield concentrated fruit from Chenin Blanc, Syrah, and Rhône varieties.

Breedekloof lies in the Breede River Valley, approximately 90 kilometers from Cape Town. The Slanghoek Mountains shelter vineyards from coastal winds while cool night temperatures preserve freshness in the grapes. Wellington, where Rüdger van Wyk now consults at Doolhof Estate, occupies the Limietberg wine ward with 32 hectares of vines on unique terroir.

Ocean influences define Western Cape viticulture. Cooling breezes from Table Bay and False Bay moderate afternoon heat, creating the tension between ripeness and freshness that characterizes the region's best wines. This maritime effect allows winemakers to achieve flavor development at lower alcohol levels than warmer inland regions.

Sustainable farming has become central to Western Cape winemaking. Many producers practice organic or biodynamic viticulture, and the region leads Africa in environmental certification programs. Discover wines from this dynamic region among our natural wine best sellers.
