Anders Frederik Steen
Natural wines from Valvignères, in the Ardèche.

Both Danish, Anders and Anne met in Copenhagen. Anders trained as a chef and built the wine lists at Relæ and Manfreds, two of the city's natural wine landmarks, before moving to the Ardèche to make his own wine in 2013.
They settled in Valvignères, bought their first hectare in 2017, and now farm four. They work toward organic and biodynamic, feeding the soil with seawater and herbal preparations and letting grass grow between the vines. Estate fruit is rounded out with grapes from Domaine du Mazel and the Bannwarth family in Alsace.
Reds are destemmed by hand and macerated whole in their own juice, a habit borrowed from the Jura. Fermentation runs on native yeast, with nothing added and nothing taken away. No two wines are ever the same, so each vintage is read on its own terms.
A small cellar and press, run at an artisanal scale. Cuvée names read like lines of poetry. The wines bottle as Vin de France.
