Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Returns Policy

Producer profile

G. D. Vajra

G. D. Vajra is a family estate based in Vergne, the highest hamlet in the Comune di Barolo, at around 400 metres elevation in the heart of the Langhe hills. The winery takes its name from Giuseppe Domenico Vajra, father of founder Aldo Vajra. Aldo began working the family's vineyards in 1968 and formally established the estate in 1972, at the time too young to register it under his own name. The Vajra family's roots here run deeper still: Aldo's grandparents acquired land in the 1920s, and his grandfather planted the Bricco delle Viole site in 1949. By 1971, before the winery was even formally constituted, Aldo had already secured one of Piedmont's earliest organic certifications.

Today G. D. Vajra farms approximately 40 hectares across multiple sites, with core Barolo holdings in the Comune di Barolo — including Bricco delle Viole, Fossati, La Volta, Coste di Vergne, and Coste di Rose — as well as Ravera in Novello, acquired in 2001, and Cantina Baudana's 2.6 hectares in Serralunga d'Alba, taken on in 2009. Aldo and his wife Milena work alongside their three children: Giuseppe oversees winemaking, Francesca manages administration and communications, and Isidoro handles vineyard management. The Barolo Albe bottling represents the estate's tribute to the historical tradition of blending Piedmontese crus, a practice that predates the modern single-vineyard focus by generations.

In addition to the Barolo range, G. D. Vajra pioneered the revival of Freisa as a serious Piedmontese variety and planted Piedmont's first Riesling in 1985. The estate holds organic certification alongside sustainable (SNQPI, 2016) and responsible (Equalitas, 2022) farming accreditations.

Wine region

Piedmont, Italy

Barolo is a DOCG in the Langhe hills of southern Piedmont, situated southwest of the town of Alba and producing 100% Nebbiolo across nine communes and more than 170 legally recognised single-vineyard sites. The zone covers roughly 2,200 hectares of vines on steep, densely planted hillsides at elevations ranging from around 170 to 540 metres above sea level. The Alps to the north and west provide shelter from cold fronts and excessive rainfall, while autumn fog — the nebbia that gives Nebbiolo its name — descends from the valleys each evening, slowing the final stages of ripening and preserving aromatic complexity.

The Comune di Barolo sits at the geographical and historical centre of the appellation. Its vineyards are predominantly composed of Sant'Agata Fossil marls, a Tortonian-age calcareous clay formation that produces wines with floral lift, supple tannin structure, and relatively earlier approachability compared to the Serravallian-dominated communes to the east such as Serralunga d'Alba and Monforte d'Alba. The Comune di Barolo's three most important MGAs for G. D. Vajra's Albe blend — Coste di Vergne, Fossati, and La Volta — all sit at the higher end of the commune's elevation range, between 380 and 480 metres, where cooler temperatures slow ripening and produce wines with more pronounced acidity and aromatic precision.

Before the MGA system formalised single-vineyard designations in 2010, Barolo was historically produced as a blend of sites, with individual plots combined to create wines of greater textural complexity and aromatic range. The Albe blend deliberately honours this tradition, drawing from three differently oriented exposures to capture the full spectrum of morning light across the estate's highest Barolo vineyards.

The 2021 Barolo vintage was shaped by a generally dry, moderately warm season with late harvests. Despite spring frost risk and localised summer hailstorms, the low nitrogen levels in the fruit produced some of the slowest, most gradual fermentations in recent memory across the appellation.
