Domaine Chantal Lescure

Domaine Chantal Lescure is a Burgundy estate built on the conviction that great terroir needs only an honest hand. Founded in Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1975, it farms a remarkable spread of vineyards across the Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune and has been certified organic since 2006.

Backstory

The domaine was founded in 1975 by Chantal Lescure and Xavier Machard de Gramont. After Chantal Lescure's death, her sons Aymeric and Thibault Machard de Gramont took over and, in 1996, hired Francois Chaveriat as cellar master and director. The estate later passed to Burgundy entrepreneur Jean-Philippe Girard.

The Region

Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the estate holds parcels in many of the important villages of the Cote des Nuits and Cote de Beaune, from Meursault to Chambolle-Musigny, complemented by a negociant arm, Chantal Lescure Selection.

Vineyards and Farming

The domaine owns 18 hectares of vineyards stretching from Meursault in the Cote de Beaune to Chambolle-Musigny in the Cote de Nuits. On arriving in 1996, Chaveriat immediately stopped all herbicides and chemical inputs, and the estate earned organic certification in 2006.

Winemaking

The philosophy is simple: better vines make better wines, and interfering with the natural process only limits the estate's ability to show off exceptional terroir. The aim is minimal intervention that lets each site express itself.

The Wines

The range covers village, premier cru, and grand cru bottlings of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay across the Cote d'Or, including premiers crus in Beaune and Nuits-Saint-Georges.
