Tasting notes

Deep, vivid pink with salmon highlights and a clear, lively appearance. The nose is fresh and expressive, with red cherry, wild strawberry, blood orange, dried herbs, and a mineral-smoky undertone from the volcanic soils. On the palate, the wine is dry and structured, with fine tannins, bright acidity, and a long, saline finish.

  • Style: Dry, light-to-medium-bodied still rosé with a deeper, more textured profile than most southern Italian rosés; the two-day skin maceration and several months in old chestnut give the wine structure and savouriness that goes well beyond a simple fresh rosé; accessible from release but holds well over one to two years
  • Grapes & terroir: Field blend of Aglianico, Primitivo, Piedirosso, and Coda di Volpe; old vines in Montemarano, Irpinia, Campania; clay and limestone soils at approximately 500 metres; organically farmed; hand-harvested at low yields; the same Montemarano parcels supply fruit for Cantina Giardino's full range of reds and rosés
  • Winemaking: Two-day skin maceration; spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts; six to nine months aging in old chestnut casks; no temperature control; bottled unfined, unfiltered, no added sulfites
  • Serving temperature & decanting: Serve at 55–59°F; no decanting necessary; allow 10 to 15 minutes in the glass to let the wine open; works equally well as an aperitivo and alongside food
  • Pairing: Ziti al ragù napoletano

Cantina Giardino Vino Rosato Tu 2023 is a dry still rosé crafted by Antonio and Daniela De Gruttola at Cantina Giardino from a field blend of old-vine Aglianico, Primitivo, Piedirosso, and Coda di Volpe grown at around 500 metres elevation on clay-limestone soils in Montemarano, Irpinia, Campania. The grapes undergo two days of skin maceration with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts, followed by six to nine months aging in old chestnut casks. Cantina Giardino Vino Rosato Tu 2023 is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulfites at 14% ABV. Campania IGP.

Ziti al ragù, Spanish tortilla española, grilled tuna steak, burrata with tomatoes, charcuterie, Japanese yakitori, roast chicken with lemon and herbs.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Cantina Giardino

Cantina Giardino was founded in Ariano Irpino by Antonio and Daniela De Gruttola. In the late 1990s, a group of friends began making wine informally at the cellar of a man they knew as Professor Giardino, whose name the winery still carries. The commercial project launched formally in 2003 around a clear and consistent mission: seek out the old-vine parcels of Irpinia that local farmers could no longer afford to work, and vinify them with no additions and complete respect for the grapes and soils. Industrial agriculture had displaced or destroyed many of the province's most traditional vineyard sites, and Antonio and Daniela saw preservation of those sites as both a cultural and an agricultural responsibility.

Antonio trained in food technology before specializing in viticulture and oenology in Piedmont. Daniela, an architect by training, is a central practical and creative force at the estate, including making terracotta amphorae by hand from soil excavated directly from the vineyards. Today Cantina Giardino manages approximately seven hectares across sixteen parcels in Avellino province, with vines of Aglianico, Fiano, Greco, Coda di Volpe, Primitivo, and Piedirosso, some exceeding 100 years old. All farming is organic, all vineyard work is manual, and vines are trained in the traditional alberello form wherever possible.

Fermentations in the cellar are spontaneous and proceed without temperature control. Aging vessels include terracotta and sandstone amphorae and casks of chestnut, acacia, cherry, and mulberry. No fining, no filtration, no added sulfites. The cuvée names form their own quiet logic: NA (Orange), TU (Rosé), and RE (Red) are three expressions from overlapping sources in the same Montemarano parcels, each shaped by different maceration lengths and aging vessels.

Wine region

Campania, Italy

Irpinia is the mountainous interior of Campania, within the province of Avellino, a landlocked territory at elevations regularly exceeding 400 metres. The terrain is shaped by ancient volcanic activity: the soils across Irpinia's hillsides are clay, limestone, and marl underlaid with volcanic ash and pumice, a combination that provides excellent drainage while retaining enough moisture for vines to thrive through dry summers. Diurnal temperature variation is significant, with warm days and cool nights preserving the acidity and aromatic freshness that distinguish Irpinia's wines from warmer coastal zones.

Montemarano, the village at the source of the grapes in Cantina Giardino Vino Rosato Tu 2023, is one of Irpinia's most respected viticultural sites. It lies in the higher, cooler part of the province, directly adjacent to the Taurasi DOCG zone, and produces Aglianico of notable structure and mineral depth. The same parcels that supply the concentrated, long-aged Aglianico reds in the Cantina Giardino range also provide the fruit for Tu, demonstrating how the same high-altitude volcanic terroir can yield very different wines depending on vinification choices.

Irpinia holds three DOCGs of note: Taurasi for Aglianico reds, Fiano di Avellino for whites from the Fiano grape, and Greco di Tufo for Greco-based whites. Together these represent the formal pinnacle of the province's indigenous varieties, but the broader IGP Campania designation, used for Cantina Giardino's range, covers a wider spectrum of field blends, experimental cuvées, and wines that do not fit neatly into the AOC framework. Primitivo, Piedirosso, and Coda di Volpe, all present in Tu, have been grown in the province for generations but hold no formal DOCG status of their own here.
