Product description

Cantina Giardino Orange Na 2024 brings together indigenous Campanian white varieties—Coda di Volpe, Fiano, and Greco—from old vines in Montemarano, where volcanic soils and high-altitude vineyards shape the fruit's character. Antonio and Daniela De Gruttola give the grapes two days of skin contact before pressing to stoneware, concrete, and large chestnut casks for seven months of aging. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts and no temperature control. Cantina Giardino Orange Na 2024 is bottled without fining, filtration, or added sulfites—part of the estate's "Na-Tu-Re" line representing their orange, rosé, and red expressions.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Cantina Giardino

Cantina Giardino traces its origins to the late 1990s when Antonio and Daniela De Gruttola began making wine with friends in a garage belonging to Professor Giardino—hence the winery's name. What started as an informal pursuit among companions became a pioneering natural wine estate when they officially launched in 2003, making them early advocates of zero-addition winemaking in Italy.

Their founding purpose remains central: rescuing old-vine parcels that local farmers could no longer maintain economically. Industrial agriculture had prompted widespread replanting of international varieties or outright vineyard abandonment throughout Irpinia. Antonio and Daniela began identifying neglected sites planted with indigenous grapes—Aglianico, Greco, Fiano, Coda di Volpe—some with vines exceeding a century in age.

The estate now encompasses approximately twenty-one hectares spread across six parcels, all farmed organically by hand. The old vines grow in traditional "alberello" fashion, trained upward like small trees rather than on modern trellis systems. Mixed agriculture persists on many sites, with olive and fruit trees sharing space with grapevines as they did generations ago.

Antonio's cellar philosophy prioritizes non-intervention. Fermentation proceeds with indigenous yeasts, without temperature control, sometimes continuing for months. Aging occurs in terracotta amphorae (some handmade by Daniela from vineyard soil), sandstone vessels, and casks of local chestnut, cherry, and acacia wood. The wines see no fining, no filtration, and typically no added sulfites. Each vintage receives a new label designed by a local artist, giving every release its own visual identity.

The "Na" cuvée represents the orange wine in their approachable "Na-Tu-Re" trilogy—orange, rosé, and red expressions designed for immediate enjoyment while maintaining the estate's uncompromising standards.

Wine region

Campania, Italy

Irpinia lies deep in Campania's mountainous interior, a world apart from the tourist-filled Amalfi coastline. This landlocked province within Avellino is defined by dramatic elevation changes, where vineyards climb to 500 meters and beyond into terrain shaped by ancient volcanic activity and seismic forces. The 1980 earthquake devastated the area, prompting rural depopulation that left countless old vineyards abandoned—a tragedy that inadvertently preserved vines now treasured by natural winemakers.

The volcanic soils scattered across Irpinia's hillsides contribute mineral richness and excellent drainage. These conditions, combined with significant diurnal temperature variation from the continental climate, produce grapes with concentrated flavors and preserved acidity. Winters can bring snow to the highest sites; summers remain warm but tempered by altitude.

Campania's viticultural roots extend to Greek colonization in the eighth century BCE. The Romans elevated the region's status, celebrating Falernian as antiquity's most prized wine. Today, Irpinia holds three prestigious DOCG appellations—Taurasi for Aglianico, Fiano di Avellino, and Greco di Tufo—alongside numerous indigenous varieties found nowhere else. Coda di Volpe, Falanghina, and dozens of obscure local grapes thrive in these hills, maintained by farmers who never abandoned traditional cultivation methods.

The natural wine movement has reinvigorated Irpinia's reputation. Producers working old vines with minimal intervention have demonstrated that Campania offers compelling alternatives to conventional southern Italian wines. The combination of ancient varieties, volcanic terroir, and committed growers creates wines of genuine distinctiveness.
