Product description

Gut Oggau Timotheus Weiss 2022 is a textured white blend from Eduard and Stephanie Tscheppe's biodynamic estate in Burgenland, Austria. This cuvée combines Grüner Veltliner and Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) from 40-year-old vines planted in gravel and limestone soils. One-third of the hand-harvested grapes ferment on skins for approximately three weeks, while the remaining two-thirds are direct-pressed; the wines are then blended. Gut Oggau Timotheus Weiss 2022 ferments spontaneously and ages for 12 months in used 500-liter barrels without bâtonnage. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, with no sulfur added. 12.5% ABV.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Gut Oggau

Eduard Tscheppe and Stephanie Tscheppe-Eselböck established Gut Oggau in 2007, reviving a 17th-century winery that had been abandoned for two decades in the village of Oggau overlooking Lake Neusiedl. Eduard brought winemaking experience from his father's operation in Styria; Stephanie's family owned Taubenkobel, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant in Burgenland. The estate's prolonged neglect proved beneficial—chemical residues had cleared from the soils, enabling immediate conversion to biodynamic practices. Today, Gut Oggau maintains full Demeter certification across roughly 25 hectares, with vineyards grazed by sheep and chickens, enriched by cover crops, and partly worked by horse.

The estate's distinctive concept assigns each wine a place within a fictional family, illustrated by artist Jung von Matt. Three generations comprise the lineup: children (Theodora, Atanasius, Winifred) from younger vines yield lighter, energetic wines; parents (Joschuari, Emmeram, Timotheus, Josephine) derive from warmer sites producing fuller-bodied cuvées; grandparents (Mechthild, Bertholdi) represent the oldest vines and most structured expressions.

Timotheus occupies the parent generation—the son of Mechthild and Bertholdi, brother to Joschuari and Emmeram. He is characterized as strong, powerful, and balanced: a self-confident man who stands firmly planted yet remains open-minded and quick to make friends. His second wife is Josephine; his daughter from a first marriage is Winifred. The wine bearing his name reflects these qualities: structured yet approachable, intellectual yet charming. The partial skin contact—one-third of the fruit macerated for three weeks—adds grip and complexity while maintaining the freshness that distinguishes the Gut Oggau whites. Annual production across all wines averages 40,000 bottles.

Wine region

Burgenland, Austria

Burgenland occupies Austria's eastern frontier where the country meets Hungary, its landscape defined by the Pannonian Plain and Lake Neusiedl. With approximately 32,200 acres under vine, this is Austria's second-largest wine region and its warmest—conditions that have historically favored red wine production. Lake Neusiedl, one of Europe's largest steppe lakes, moderates temperature extremes and generates humidity that shapes both dry wine production and the celebrated botrytized dessert wines of the area.

Oggau sits on the lake's western shore within the Neusiedlersee zone. Soils here range from gravel deposits near the water to limestone on higher ground, providing excellent drainage while imparting mineral character to wines. The Pannonian climate delivers warm continental conditions: hot air from Hungary meets cooler Alpine breezes from the west, extending the growing season while enabling grapes to retain natural acidity despite the warmth.

Burgenland comprises four DAC (Districtus Austriae Controllatus) zones: Neusiedlersee surrounds the lake; Leithaberg in the north showcases mineral-driven whites and reds; Mittelburgenland centers on Blaufränkisch, Austria's signature red variety; Eisenberg in the southeast produces structured, iron-inflected reds.

Though Burgenland built its reputation on red wines, white varieties thrive here as well. Grüner Veltliner and Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) develop fuller, riper expressions in this warm climate compared to cooler Austrian regions. Old vines—those approaching 40 years or more—yield concentrated fruit with greater complexity and depth. Natural and biodynamic winemaking has flourished in Burgenland, with estates like Gut Oggau, Claus Preisinger, and Meinklang establishing the region as a center for minimal intervention viticulture alongside its traditional strengths.
