Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Poggiosecco

Azienda Agricola Poggiosecco sits in the Montalbano Hills between Cerreto Guidi and Vinci—the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci. The estate's name translates to "dry slope," referencing the well-drained chalk and sandstone soils that characterize this 16-hectare property. Founded in 1967, Poggiosecco was among the first members of the Consorzio del Chianti.

The estate underwent significant transformation in 2001 when owners Marco Filipello and Giuseppe Pluchino restructured operations toward organic farming. Organic certification followed in 2004, and biodynamic certification arrived in 2009. Today, Marco and Giuseppe consider biodynamic agriculture "the only possible way of farming considering the historical context in which we live."

Biodynamic practices permeate every aspect of vineyard management. Natural treatments—green and cow manure, herbal tisanes, minimal copper and sulfur—follow the biodynamic calendar and lunar phases. Old vines and branches are removed during rising moons, incinerated, and the ashes reintroduced to the soil. Pruning occurs during descending lunar phases when reduced sap flow allows wounds to heal more easily.

The estate cultivates 12 hectares of vines alongside 4 hectares of olive trees. Primary grape varieties include Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet, with smaller plantings of indigenous white varieties Vermentino, Malvasia di Candia, and Canaiolo. The cellar approach mirrors vineyard philosophy: spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, aging in cement tanks or older oak, no fining agents, and very limited sulfur additions.

The portfolio includes Chianti DOCG (100% Sangiovese), Ginestreto Rosso IGT (Sangiovese-Merlot blend), Aramis (Sangiovese-Cabernet-Merlot), and Etrah—a pétillant naturel Vermentino bottled undisgorged on its lees. These wines represent some of the best-value natural wines from Tuscany.

Wine region

Tuscany, Italy

Tuscany occupies a central position in both Italian geography and wine culture. The region stretches from the Tyrrhenian coast inland to the Apennine Mountains, encompassing some of Italy's most celebrated wine appellations: Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, and Bolgheri among them. Rolling hills covered in vineyards, olive groves, and cypress trees define the classic Tuscan landscape.

The Montalbano Hills, where Poggiosecco is located, occupy the area between Florence and Siena—historically part of the broader Chianti zone. This subregion benefits from elevation (100-350 meters above sea level), well-drained soils of chalk and sandstone, and optimal sun exposure that promotes even grape ripening. The Mediterranean climate brings warm, dry summers and mild winters, with sufficient rainfall to sustain viticulture without irrigation.

Sangiovese dominates Tuscan red wine production. Known locally as Sangioveto, Brunello, Prugnolo Gentile, and other regional synonyms, this variety thrives in Tuscany's calcareous soils and produces wines ranging from bright and cherry-fruited to deeply structured and age-worthy. International varieties—particularly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon—entered the region in the 1970s and now complement Sangiovese in many blends, often labeled as Toscana IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) rather than under traditional DOCG designations.

The IGT classification allows producers greater flexibility in grape selection and winemaking techniques than the more regulated DOCG appellations. This freedom has attracted both innovative winemakers seeking to experiment and traditionalists wanting to craft wines outside appellation constraints. Natural and biodynamic winemaking has gained significant traction in Tuscany, with producers like Poggiosecco demonstrating that organic and biodynamic practices can yield wines of genuine character and accessibility.
