Calvez Bobinet Poil de Lièvre Chenin 2024 is a biodynamic white wine crafted from 100% Chenin Blanc grown in the Saumur region of France's Loire Valley. The grapes are harvested approximately two weeks earlier than those used for the estate's richer Les Gruches cuvée, preserving bright acidity and freshness. Calvez Bobinet Poil de Lièvre Chenin 2024 undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, then ages on lees in stainless steel tanks. The vineyards sit on tuffeau limestone soils characteristic of Saumur, imparting distinctive minerality. Bottled unfiltered without added sulfites, this wine showcases the couple's minimal-intervention approach.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Domaine Calvez Bobinet

Domaine Calvez Bobinet represents a partnership between Sébastien Bobinet, a seventh-generation winemaker from the Saumur region, and Émeline Calvez, a former professional dancer who transitioned to winemaking after an injury ended her dance career. The domaine was established in 2002 when Sébastien inherited 1.8 hectares of vineyard and a tuffeau cave cellar from his maternal grandparents.

From the outset, organic farming was non-negotiable—a commitment shaped by the influence of Olivier Cousin, a pioneering natural winemaker in nearby Anjou. Sébastien began with 1.5 hectares of Cabernet Franc and 0.3 hectares of Chenin Blanc, expanding to approximately 7 hectares across multiple parcels. In 2007, his interest in carbonic maceration led him to Bernard Pontonnier ("Ponpon"), who had learned the technique from natural wine legends including Marcel Lapierre and Jean Foillard.

Émeline joined the domaine in 2011, bringing her trained sommelier's palate and passion for authentic wines. The couple divided responsibilities: Émeline handles winemaking in their ancient cave cellar carved 500 meters deep into the limestone cliffs, while Sébastien manages vineyard work. Their collaboration has elevated the domaine's reputation, with wines now sought after internationally.

The portfolio ranges from approachable, bistro-ready cuvées to more structured wines intended for aging. Poil de Lièvre ("Hare's Fur") represents their fresh, early-drinking style of Chenin, while Les Gruches offers a richer, barrel-aged expression. The reds include Hanami and Ruben from young Cabernet Franc vines, plus the more serious Amatéus Bobi, Echalier, and Greta Carbo from established parcels.

All wines are produced without filtration or added sulfites, reflecting the couple's commitment to minimal intervention.

Wine region

Loire Valley, France

Saumur sits in the heart of the Loire Valley, France's longest river wine region, stretching over 600 kilometers from the Atlantic coast inland. The appellation occupies both banks of the Loire near the town of Saumur, where the Anjou region transitions into Touraine. This area has produced wine since at least the medieval period, with viticulture deeply intertwined with local culture and commerce.

The defining geological feature is tuffeau—a soft, white limestone that underlies much of Saumur. This porous stone serves multiple functions: it retains moisture during dry periods, reflects light to aid ripening during cooler months, and provides the distinctive chalky minerality that marks the region's finest wines. Many producers age their wines in caves carved directly into tuffeau cliffs, where constant temperature and humidity create ideal maturation conditions.

The climate is maritime-influenced continental, with moderate rainfall and warm summers tempered by Atlantic breezes. These conditions suit Chenin Blanc particularly well—the variety achieves phenolic ripeness while retaining the natural acidity that defines great Loire whites. Cabernet Franc dominates red wine production, with Saumur-Champigny recognized as one of the Loire's premier appellations for the variety.

Saumur produces diverse wine styles: still whites from Chenin Blanc ranging from bone-dry to richly sweet, elegant Cabernet Franc reds, and traditional-method sparkling wines including Crémant de Loire and Saumur Brut. The region has become a center for natural winemaking in France, with producers like Calvez Bobinet, Olivier Cousin, and others championing organic and biodynamic viticulture alongside minimal cellar intervention.

The appellation was instrumental in advancing sustainable practices: Saumur-Champigny became the first AOC in France to collectively agree on reducing chemical treatments.
