Dimitri Vetois and Marion Valverde moved to the village of Menétru-le-Vignoble in 2020 with a shared passion for viticulture, two Comtois draught horses, and a clear-eyed commitment to letting the Jura speak for itself. The name 476 is the house number of their home and cellar in the village.
Backstory
Dimitri earned a BTS in viticulture and enology and broadened his experience across France and New Zealand before settling in the Jura. Marion left a career in nursing to train in equine traction, an unusual and demanding choice that became central to the identity of the domaine. Together they founded La Grange 476 in 2019, completing their first harvest in 2020 and gradually expanding from an initial 2.5 hectares to just under 4 hectares across parcels in some of Château-Chalon's finest terroirs, including the Beaumont and Sous Roche lieux-dits.
The Region
The Côtes du Jura appellation runs along the first escarpment of the Jura mountains between Burgundy and Switzerland. The combination of limestone and marl soils -- often alternating within a single parcel -- gives the wines a taut mineral character that is unmistakably Jurassien. Château-Chalon's slopes, where several of La Grange 476's best parcels sit, are among the most prized in the region for Savagnin.
Vineyards and Farming
All four hectares are farmed organically and biodynamically from the outset, with no synthetic treatments. Dimitri and Marion work the vineyard rows entirely with their two Comtois horses, Soferino and Khyr, avoiding soil compaction and maintaining the microbial life that conventional machinery tends to damage. Varieties include Savagnin (the majority), Chardonnay, Poulsard, Pinot Noir, and the rare Melon à Queue Rouge.
Winemaking
Whites are pressed directly to old casks and aged by parcel. Reds are destemmed by hand using traditional cane mats, with nothing added at any stage. The philosophy is patience -- wines are allowed as much time as they need before bottling. Zero additions means no added sulfur, no commercial yeasts, no fining or filtration.
The Wines
Key wines include Les Bouchettes (Chardonnay), L'Angevré (Chardonnay), Sous-Roche (Savagnin), and Pinocchio, a red. Each wine is vinified and bottled by parcel to preserve the character of individual terroirs within the estate.
