Domaine de Dauliac

Pierre Baltenweck harvesting in the vineyard at Domaine de Dauliac in Cahors

After training in naval carpentry and waiting tables in Toulouse, Pierre Baltenweck came home to Luzech in 2017 to take over nine generations of family vines.

Backstory

The Baltenweck family has owned the estate since 1852, with their first vintage recorded in 1877. Pierre, the ninth generation, took over in 2017 and steered the estate toward more natural wines.

The Region

Domaine de Dauliac sits in the commune of Luzech, in the heart of the Cahors appellation in the Lot Valley of southwest France, on clay-limestone soils.

Vineyards & Farming

The estate farms around 21 hectares, planted mainly to Malbec with some vines dating back to 1928. It earned organic certification in 2013 and adopted biodynamics, becoming Demeter certified in 2020.

Winemaking

Pierre favors gentle extraction and fermentation primarily in concrete vats, producing reds that are softer, fruitier and juicier than the region's traditional style.

The Wines

The wines are Cahors Malbec, including the cuvee Nu Cot, expressing the dark fruit and freshness of the Lot Valley's limestone terroir.
