Tasting notes

Pineau d'Aunis rosé has a signature crack of white pepper at the finish that you won't find in other Loire pinks — it sits on top of cranberry, raspberry, and a mineral, almost saline undercurrent. The direct-press, lees-aged approach gives it more texture than it looks, and at 12% ABV it stays nimble through an entire meal.

Gaspard is a house label created by Jenny Lefcourt of Jenny & François Selections. The Pineau d'Aunis Rosé comes from sustainably or organically farmed vineyards across the central Loire Valley, primarily in the Touraine area. Soils are clay-limestone. Vines range from 10 to 35 years old.

Grapes are hand-harvested, pressed immediately, and fermented with indigenous yeasts — a direct-press approach that limits color extraction and keeps the wine pale and fresh. The wine spends approximately 6 months on its fine lees in tank, then receives light filtration. It is not fined. Sulfite additions are minimal.

Pineau d'Aunis is one of the Loire's oldest red varieties, now most concentrated in Touraine and the Coteaux du Vendômois. As a rosé, it tends toward pale salmon-pink with a signature white pepper note layered over red fruit — cranberry, raspberry, and wild strawberry — and a brisk, saline finish.

This is a dry, light-bodied rosé with lively acidity and a slightly tannic grip that sets it apart from most Provence-style pinks. Drink young and slightly chilled.

Serve with fresh goat cheese — the classic Touraine pairing — or alongside charcuterie: dry sausage, cured ham, pâté. The pepper character and firm acidity also make it a good match for herby grilled fish or a Moroccan-spiced chicken dish.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Gaspard

Jenny & François Selections was founded in 2000 by Jenny Lefcourt and François Ecot, operating initially out of their residences in New York and France. Lefcourt was pursuing a PhD in French cinema and literature at Harvard when she encountered natural wine in a Paris wine shop and began carrying bottles back to New York in her suitcase. Early placements at Manhattan restaurants including Gramercy Tavern helped establish the company. By 2004 Lefcourt had left academia to run the business full time. Jenny & François now distributes to all 50 states.

Gaspard is a house label within the Jenny & François portfolio. Grapes are sourced from carefully selected growers in the central Loire Valley who farm sustainably or organically — no herbicide use. Soils are clay-limestone. The label covers several varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Gamay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, and Pineau d'Aunis. The Gaspard labels were designed by Swedish artist Madlen Herrstrom, who also proposed the name — 'Gaspard' is a traditional French boy's name.

Winemaking for the Gaspard range follows a consistent low-intervention approach: indigenous yeast fermentation, aging in concrete, stainless steel, or neutral oak, light filtration, no fining, and minimal sulfite additions. For the Pineau d'Aunis Rosé specifically, grapes are pressed immediately after harvest to limit color extraction. The wine spends approximately 6 months on fine lees in tank before bottling.

Wine region

Loire Valley, France

The Loire Valley stretches roughly 620 miles from the Massif Central to the Atlantic. The Middle Loire — covering Touraine, Saumur, and Anjou — is where the majority of appellations sit. Touraine, centered around the city of Tours, has a climate that shifts from oceanic in the west to more continental in the east, with annual rainfall around 550 to 650 millimeters. Soils are varied: clay-limestone on chalk beds, flinty clays, sand, and gravel. Tuffeau — a porous chalky limestone — is the region's defining subsoil and appears in cellars, cave dwellings, and the great châteaux of Chambord, Chenonceau, and Azay-le-Rideau.

Touraine produces Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Gamay, Cabernet Franc, and Pineau d'Aunis across a range of appellations including Touraine AOC, Chinon, Vouvray, Bourgueil, and the smaller Coteaux du Vendômois and Coteaux du Loir — the latter two being the heartland of Pineau d'Aunis. Pineau d'Aunis is permitted in Anjou, Saumur, Touraine, Valençay, Coteaux du Loir, and Coteaux du Vendômois AOCs. The Loire Valley as a whole is one of the most active regions for organic and natural wine production in France, with a long history of low-intervention farming tied to the natural wine movement.
