Tasting notes

A true micro-production at only 800 bottles, Megablend Rosato threads the needle between Montepulciano's red-fruit depth and Trebbiano's citric snap. The acidity is bright and persistent, the finish savory and dry without any heaviness.

Megablend Rosato is a field-blend rosé from Cantina Indigeno, a small natural wine operation based in Montorio al Vomano in the Teramo province of Abruzzo. The wine combines Montepulciano, which contributes color and red fruit structure, with Trebbiano, which adds freshness and lift. Only 800 bottles were produced.

Fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts and no temperature control. After a brief maceration on skins, the wine is racked and pressed, then transferred to fiberglass containers where it refines on its lees. No filtration, no sulfur dioxide additions before bottling.

The result is a dry, light-to-medium-bodied rosé with prominent acidity and a savory, highly drinkable finish. Expect notes of red currant, cassis, dried flowers, and a mineral edge. At under 12% ABV, it sits on the lighter end of the spectrum and benefits from serving well-chilled.

Cantina Indigeno sells most of its production to the US and Japan, with only a fraction remaining in Italy. The 2019 is a single-vintage release from grapes sourced from organically managed vineyards in the Teramo hills.

Serve well-chilled alongside grilled branzino or whole roasted chicken. It holds up to arrosticini, the Abruzzo skewered lamb, better than most rosés at this weight. Also works with fried zucchini blossoms, mozzarella, or a simple tomato salad.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Cantina Indigeno

Cantina Indigeno was founded in 2016 by four friends: Alfredo Giugno, Nicola Reginaldi, Fabio Petrella, and Loreto Lamolinara, all based near Montorio al Vomano in the Teramo province of Abruzzo. The project grew out of a shared interest in fermentation — Giugno and Lamolinara had previously run a microbrewery together — and was shaped by Reginaldi, a sommelier who had become deeply involved in natural wine. The winery started small, producing around 5,000 bottles in its first vintage (2016), scaling to approximately 25,000 bottles by 2018 as they acquired additional vineyard access.

Cantina Indigeno farms a small amount of its own land and sources additional grapes from growers in the Teramo hills who work exclusively with copper and sulfur in the vineyard. All farming is organic. The vineyards sit in the clay-limestone hills characteristic of the Teramo province, with some plots on volcanic soils. Their primary grape varieties are Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, along with lesser-known indigenous varieties such as Montonico and Pecorino.

Winemaking at Cantina Indigeno follows a strict non-intervention approach: spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts only, no temperature control, no filtration or fining, and zero sulfur additions. Wines age on their lees in fiberglass containers. The range spans skin-contact whites, amphora-aged reds, carbonic-maceration styles, and blended rosati like the Megablend. The US and Japan are their largest export markets, with most of each vintage sold before it even reaches Italy.

Wine region

Abruzzo, Italy

Abruzzo runs along the central Adriatic coast of Italy, bordered by Marche to the north, Molise to the south, and Lazio to the west. The Apennine Mountains cover more than 65% of the region's terrain, with Gran Sasso — the highest peak in the Apennines at 2,912 meters — forming a dramatic western backdrop. Most vineyards are concentrated in the hilly band between the Adriatic coast and the Apennine foothills, roughly 25 to 50 kilometers inland. The northern provinces of Teramo and Pescara tend to produce more structured, critically regarded wines from less fertile, ferrous clay and limestone soils at higher elevations.

Abruzzo's climate shifts from Mediterranean along the coast — warm, dry summers and mild winters — to more continental in the inland mountain zones, where diurnal temperature swings of 15 to 20 degrees Celsius help retain acidity in the grapes. The region's primary appellations are Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC for red wine, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC for white, and Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo DOC for rosato — all made from the native Montepulciano and Trebbiano grapes. The Colline Teramane Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOCG, centered in the Teramo hills, is the region's only DOCG and recognized for age-worthy structured reds. Indigenous varieties including Pecorino, Passerina, Cococciola, and Montonico are seeing growing interest from a new generation of small producers.
