Tasting notes

This is a genuinely dry pét nat that earns its fizz the old-fashioned way — fermentation finishes in the bottle, leaving nothing behind but clean bubbles and the tart, floral character of three Alsatian grapes in co-fermentation. At 11% ABV, it stays bright and precise rather than weighty, with Riesling's citrus tension cutting through the roundness of Pinot Gris.

Hasta la Vizsla is a pétillant naturel from Lisanne van Son of Sonshine Vins, made from fruit sourced at Domaine Luc Faller in Itterswiller, a village on the Alsace Wine Route near Barr. The blend is 50% Riesling, 25% Pinot Blanc, and 25% Pinot Gris, all hand-harvested in a single day and transported to the Loire Valley in a refrigerated truck for vinification.

The wine is made in the ancestral pétillant naturel method: co-fermented, bottled during active alcoholic fermentation with approximately 16 grams of residual sugar, and left undisgorged. Fermentation continues in the bottle and finishes dry within a couple of months. No additions during vinification; a minimal dose of sulfur may be added at bottling if the wine requires stabilization for shipping.

The 2018 vintage was vinified in a troglodyte cave in Noizay in the Touraine, which Lisanne used as her base before relocating to Jujurieux in the Bugey. Domaine Luc Faller has farmed biodynamically since around 2010 and holds Demeter certification across 8.5 hectares. The wine is labeled Vin de France, as the pétillant naturel method and cross-regional blend falls outside Alsace AOC rules. ABV is 11%.

Works well as an aperitif alongside fresh chèvre, radishes with butter and fleur de sel, or smoked salmon blinis. The acidity and fine bubbles also hold up against light shellfish dishes like oysters or shrimp with herbs. Keep it cold and drink it young.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Sonshine Vins

Sonshine Vins is the project of Lisanne van Son, a Dutch-born former sommelier who moved to the Touraine region of the Loire Valley in March 2017 to begin winemaking studies in Amboise. After completing her diploma, she established a négoce operation and sourced fruit from organic and biodynamic growers in Alsace and the Loire. For the 2018 vintage, she vinified in a troglodyte cave in Noizay, near Amboise, where sandstone hillsides have housed wine cellars for generations.

In 2021, Lisanne and her partner Edouard acquired 4 hectares of vineyards in Jujurieux, in the Bugey region between Lyon and Geneva, operating under the name Domaine des Sonnettes. All Sonshine wines are now produced there. Across the négociant range, all fruit is sourced from growers practicing organic or biodynamic farming, and Lisanne harvests the grapes herself.

In the cellar, Sonshine wines ferment on indigenous yeasts with no additions. For pétillant naturel wines like Hasta la Vizsla, the wine is bottled during active fermentation and left undisgorged, meaning the spent yeast lees remain in the bottle. A minimal dose of sulfur may be added before bottling if needed for stability, but the 2018 was made with no additions during vinification.

Wine region

Alsace, France

Alsace runs roughly 80 miles north to south along the eastern edge of the Vosges Mountains in northeastern France, bordering Germany across the Rhine River. The Vosges act as a rain shadow, giving the region one of the lowest annual rainfalls in France — between 500 and 650mm — and a semi-continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold winters. Vineyard altitudes range from around 175 to 550 meters above sea level. The village of Itterswiller, where Domaine Luc Faller farms, sits along the mid-slope of the Route des Vins near the town of Barr.

Alsace geology is one of the most complex in any French wine region, with 13 distinct soil types mapped from granite, limestone, schist, sandstone, volcanic rock, clay, and marl. This variety is the result of intense tectonic activity — the Rhine Graben rift — that exposed ancient formations across a narrow corridor. Alsace AOC law requires wines to be labeled by grape variety rather than by place, and the region's appellation system includes a Crémant d'Alsace designation for traditional-method sparkling wines. Pétillant naturel wines like Hasta la Vizsla fall outside this structure and are classified as Vin de France.
