Product description

Gut Oggau Cecilia Rosé 2022 represents the newest addition to this Austrian estate's fictional family. Crafted by Eduard and Stephanie Tscheppe in Burgenland, this unconventional rosé comes from a 1.4-hectare plot planted with Gemischter Satz—a traditional Austrian field blend combining red and white grape varieties growing together on limestone soils. Two-thirds of the hand-harvested grapes are pressed directly while one-third undergoes brief maceration. Gut Oggau Cecilia Rosé 2022 ferments spontaneously in large wooden vats, then matures in 1500-liter barrels. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, with no sulfur added. 12% ABV.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Gut Oggau

Eduard Tscheppe and Stephanie Tscheppe-Eselböck established Gut Oggau in 2007, reviving a 17th-century winery that had been abandoned for two decades in the village of Oggau overlooking Lake Neusiedl. Eduard brought winemaking experience from his father's operation in Styria; Stephanie's family owned Taubenkobel, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Burgenland. The estate's prolonged neglect proved beneficial—chemical residues had cleared from the soils, enabling immediate conversion to biodynamic practices. Today, Gut Oggau maintains full Demeter certification across roughly 25 hectares, with vineyards grazed by sheep, enriched by cover crops, and partly worked by horse.

The estate's distinctive concept assigns each wine a place within a fictional family, illustrated by artist Jung von Matt. Three generations comprise the core lineup: children (Theodora, Atanasius, Winifred) from younger vines yield lighter wines; parents (Joschuari, Emmeram, Timotheus, Josephine) come from warmer sites producing fuller-bodied cuvées; grandparents (Mechthild, Bertholdi) derive from the oldest vines.

Cecilia represents the newest family member—described as independent, unconventional, and unconcerned with fitting into established categories. She originates from a 1.4-hectare plot that Eduard and Stephanie recultivated, planted with a Gemischter Satz field blend of red and white varieties growing together on limestone. The wine blurs traditional boundaries: neither strictly rosé nor white, it combines direct pressing with partial maceration to create something idiosyncratic. The estate characterizes Cecilia as a lover of horses, reflecting the vineyard work done by horse to avoid soil compaction. Annual production across all Gut Oggau wines averages 40,000 bottles.

Wine region

Burgenland, Austria

Burgenland hugs Austria's eastern frontier where the country meets Hungary, its terrain shaped by the vast Pannonian Plain. With roughly 32,200 acres under vine, this is Austria's second-largest wine region and its warmest—conditions that have historically favored red wine production. Lake Neusiedl (Neusiedler See), one of Europe's largest steppe lakes, dominates the landscape, moderating temperatures and generating humidity that influences everything from dry wine production to the celebrated botrytized dessert wines of the area.

The village of Oggau occupies the lake's western shore within the Neusiedlersee zone. Limestone predominates in the hillside vineyards above the village, contributing mineral character and structure to wines. The Pannonian climate delivers warm continental conditions: hot air from Hungary meets cooler Alpine breezes from the west, extending the growing season while allowing grapes to retain natural acidity despite the warmth.

Burgenland comprises four DAC (Districtus Austriae Controllatus) zones. Neusiedlersee wraps around the lake and encompasses both structured dry wines and noble rot desserts. Leithaberg to the north features pronounced minerality from ancient geological formations. Mittelburgenland centers on Blaufränkisch, Austria's signature red variety. Eisenberg in the southeast produces tannic, iron-inflected reds.

The region preserves the Gemischter Satz tradition—field blends where multiple grape varieties grow together and are harvested and fermented as one. This practice, common throughout Austria for centuries, produces wines of complexity that transcend single-variety expressions. Natural winemaking has flourished in Burgenland, with estates like Gut Oggau, Meinklang, and Claus Preisinger establishing the region as a center for minimal intervention viticulture.
