Tasting notes

White-vinified Montepulciano at 10.5% ABV is a genuine rarity — it delivers all the red-berry brightness of the grape without any of its tannic weight. The Passerina adds a nervy, citrus-edged lift that keeps the wine snappy and refreshing from the first sip to the last.

Gossip Rosato is made from a single 1-hectare vineyard in Atessa, a small municipality in the Sangro River Valley, province of Chieti, Abruzzo. The vines are over 30 years old, trained in the traditional awning system, planted at 300 meters above sea level on clay soils with marl in the subsoil, with a southern exposure toward the Adriatic Sea and the Maiella massif to the west.

The blend is predominantly Montepulciano with approximately 15% Passerina, vinified as a white — meaning the grapes are direct-pressed with minimal skin contact, yielding a pale, delicate rosato rather than a deep Cerasuolo-style pink. Fermentation is spontaneous, lasting roughly one month in stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged in stainless steel, then bottled unfined, unfiltered, with no added sulfites.

The 2020 vintage in Abruzzo saw hot daytime temperatures peaking around 30°C with significant diurnal swings after veraison, averaging around 19°C at night. That thermal variation preserved acidity and aromatic freshness in the finished wine despite the warmth of the growing season.

Luca Bevilacqua produces under the LAB label — a small-production project of fewer than 10,000 bottles total across all wines. This is an uncomplicated, low-alcohol rosé built for drinking, not cellaring, though it has enough structure to age a few years.

Serve well chilled alongside grilled seafood, light pasta with olive oil and herbs, or a plate of mild soft cheese. Its low alcohol and crisp acidity also make it a natural match for dishes with a little heat — think spicy arancini or a shrimp fra diavolo.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Luca Bevilacqua

Luca Bevilacqua is a professional sommelier based in Atessa, in the Val di Sangro area of southern Abruzzo. After years working in restaurants and advising on conventionally made wine, he began making his own wine in 2006 from vineyards inherited from his father. The project is called LAB, from the initials of his two sons, Lorenzo Amerigo and Leonardo Andrea Bevilacqua. Total production across all wines is fewer than 10,000 bottles.

The vineyards are located in Atessa in the province of Chieti, planted on clay soils, and have never been treated with synthetic chemicals — only copper in small quantities when necessary. Luca farms organically and focuses exclusively on Abruzzo's indigenous varieties: Montepulciano, Passerina, Trebbiano, and Pecorino. The vines used for Gossip Rosato are over 30 years old, sit at 300 meters above sea level, and face south toward the Adriatic.

Luca's winemaking approach is zero-zero from the start: spontaneous fermentation only, no fining, no filtration, no added sulfites. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and lasts approximately one month. Wines are aged in stainless steel or fiberglass and are bottled for early drinking, prioritizing freshness and drinkability over structure or aging potential.

Wine region

Abruzzo, Italy

Abruzzo sits on the central Adriatic coast of Italy, bracketed by the Apennine Mountains to the west and the Adriatic Sea to the east. This geography creates a split climate: continental conditions dominate the mountainous interior, while the coastal areas benefit from Mediterranean warmth tempered by sea breezes. At higher elevations, diurnal temperature swings are pronounced, helping to preserve acidity and aromatic complexity in the grapes. The Apennines block storms moving in from the west, though the region remains exposed to precipitation systems from the east.

The province of Chieti accounts for roughly 75% of Abruzzo's vineyard area and is the fifth-largest wine-producing province in Italy. Soils across the region are predominantly clay-limestone and marl, with variation across the river valleys that flow west to east toward the sea. Key appellations include Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo DOC (the region's celebrated rosé appellation, spun off as its own DOC in 2010), and the Colline Teramane Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOCG. Indigenous varieties like Passerina and Pecorino have gained significant ground alongside the dominant Montepulciano and Trebbiano.
