Tasting notes

Grenache Blanc is rarely made as a skin-contact wine in California, and this bottling shows what the variety can do with extended maceration: dried stone fruit, honey, and a tannic grip that keeps it focused rather than flabby. It is a genuinely uncommon style from a county better known for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

  • Style: Medium-bodied orange wine; deep golden-amber; peach, honey, dried apricot; skin-contact Grenache Blanc; Santa Barbara County
  • Grapes & Terroir: 100% Grenache Blanc; Santa Barbara County, California; hand-picked, hand-sorted
  • Winemaking: Extended skin maceration; native yeast fermentation; minimalist cellar approach
  • Serving: Serve at 55-60F; can be served slightly below typical white wine temperature to tame the textural weight
  • Pairing: Roasted pork, Moroccan tagine, spiced chicken, Comté, aged Gouda

Gimme Some Moro is a skin-contact white wine made from Grenache Blanc grown in Santa Barbara County, California. The grapes were macerated on their skins for an extended period, producing the wine's deep golden-amber color. This is an orange wine in the traditional sense: white grapes fermented or macerated with skin contact, not a wine made from oranges.

On the nose, expect ripe peach, honey, and dried apricot, characteristics typical of Grenache Blanc given extended skin contact. The palate is medium-bodied with textural grip from the tannins extracted during maceration, balanced by the variety's naturally lower acidity. Grenache Blanc tends toward higher alcohol and a plush, full texture, and the skin contact adds structure and oxidative complexity that keeps the wine from feeling heavy.

Press Gang fruit is hand-picked, hand-sorted, and fermented with native yeast. Kyle Knapp applies a minimalist approach in the cellar, letting the grape and vineyard source drive the wine's character rather than intervention. Production is small-batch; exact case counts for this bottling are not publicly confirmed.

The skin-contact texture and stone fruit character make this a natural with roasted chicken, pork shoulder, or spiced dishes like Moroccan tagine. It holds up well alongside medium-hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gouda. Avoid very delicate white fish preparations; the tannin structure needs some weight on the plate.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Press Gang Cellars

Kyle and Savanna Knapp founded Press Gang Cellars in 2010 in Lompoc, California. Kyle, a Lompoc native, got his start at harvest in 2005 at Beckmen Vineyards before spending a vintage in Western Australia. He subsequently worked his way up through Santa Barbara County cellars and held the position of head winemaker at Stolpman Vineyards. The label name comes from the song 'Press Gang' by the Murder City Devils, a reference to the British Navy's practice of impressment.

Press Gang sources fruit from vineyards in Santa Barbara County including sites in the Santa Ynez Valley, Ballard Canyon, and Sta. Rita Hills. Confirmed vineyard partners include the Two Wolves site just outside Happy Canyon AVA, which is certified organic and planted to Grenache in dense shaley clay loam soils, and the Robert Rea Ranch at the eastern edge of Sta. Rita Hills, situated at approximately 800 feet elevation in weathered Vaquero sandstone on a north-facing slope.

All Press Gang fruit is hand-picked, hand-sorted, and fermented with native yeast. Kyle's stated approach combines classic winemaking methods with progressive cellar techniques depending on the wine. For Gimme Some Moro, extended skin maceration on Grenache Blanc produces the wine's amber color and tannic structure, a technique rarely applied to this variety in California.

Wine region

Santa Barbara County, USA

Santa Barbara County sits at the southern end of California's Central Coast AVA. Two parallel transverse mountain ranges, the San Rafael Range and the Santa Ynez Mountains, run east to west rather than north to south, creating a funnel that pulls Pacific Ocean air deep inland. Average growing-season daytime highs peak between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, with nighttime lows dropping below 50 degrees. This diurnal range extends hang time and allows grapes to fully develop flavor and acidity before harvest.

The county contains seven AVAs: Santa Maria Valley, Santa Ynez Valley, Sta. Rita Hills, Ballard Canyon, Los Olivos District, Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara, and Alisos Canyon. The climate shifts from cool and fog-driven near the coast to warm and dry inland, allowing the county to grow everything from cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the west to Rhone varieties like Syrah, Grenache, and Grenache Blanc in the mid-valley and warmer eastern zones. Ballard Canyon, officially recognized in 2013, is particularly noted for Syrah and Grenache, with over 80 percent of its planted acreage in Rhone varieties. Soils across the county range from sandy loam and diatomaceous earth near the coast to limestone, clay loam, and shale further inland.
