Tasting notes

This is a genuinely low-alcohol, lightly skin-contact pet-nat that delivers real complexity — bread crust, white flowers, tart stone fruit, and saline mineral tension — without any heaviness. At 11% ABV, it drinks like a sparkling wine should: fresh, lively, and easy to finish the whole bottle.

Gas Bianco is a pétillant naturel made from 100% Trebbiano grown organically in the hills of Teramo, in Abruzzo's mountainous interior near Montorio al Vomano. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts in open vats with a light maceration period. The wine is bottled before fermentation finishes, trapping CO2 naturally in the bottle — no added sugars, no added sulfur at any stage, no fining, no filtration.

The result is a lightly hazy, slightly amber-tinted sparkling wine with gentle, persistent bubbles. Aromas lean toward white flowers, fresh citrus peel, and bread crust, with a saline mineral note underneath. On the palate, tart stone fruit and a faint nuttiness ride a spine of zippy acidity typical of Trebbiano d'Abruzzo handled with light skin contact.

At around 11% ABV, this is a genuinely low-alcohol wine built for immediate drinking. Serve well chilled, pour gently to avoid disturbing any sediment, or decant briefly through a fine strainer. The sediment is harmless — a byproduct of the ancestral method. Drink young and fresh.

Works well as an aperitivo alongside fried foods, salumi, or briny snacks — the acidity and bubbles cut through fat cleanly. Try with raw or lightly dressed seafood, oysters, or a simple seafood pasta. Also good with fresh goat cheese or soft sheep's milk cheeses from the region.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Cantina Indigeno

Cantina Indigeno was founded in 2016 by four friends: Alfredo Giugno, Nicola Reginaldi, Fabio Petrella, and Loreto Lamolinara. The project is based near Montorio al Vomano in the Teramo province of Abruzzo. Before starting the winery, several of the founders were involved in craft beer fermentation — Giugno was a homebrewer, and Lamolinara distributed craft beers. Nicola Reginaldi, a sommelier, brought the focus to natural wine. The group was encouraged early on by their peers at Lammidia, another Abruzzo natural wine producer.

Cantina Indigeno farms organically, working a combination of estate vineyards and organically grown fruit sourced from nearby growers. The primary varieties are Trebbiano and Montepulciano, both native to Abruzzo. Vineyard work uses only copper and sulfur treatments; no synthetic pesticides or herbicides are used.

All wines are made with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts, no temperature control, and zero additions throughout the winemaking process — no sulfur, no fining agents, no filtration. The Gas Bianco is bottled before fermentation completes to create natural carbonation via the ancestral method. Wines are typically aged on their lees in fiberglass tanks before bottling. Production is small, with wines selling primarily in the United States and Japan.

Wine region

Abruzzo, Italy

Abruzzo sits on the central Adriatic coast of Italy, bordered by the Apennine Mountains to the west and the Adriatic Sea to the east. The region spans four provinces — Teramo, Pescara, Chieti, and L'Aquila — and covers roughly 32,000 hectares of vineyard. The dramatic elevation shift from coastal plains to Apennine peaks creates a wide range of microclimates, with mountain vineyards benefiting from large diurnal temperature swings that preserve acidity in white grapes. The Teramo hills, where Cantina Indigeno is based, sit inland in the northern part of the region with clay and limestone soils.

Abruzzo's two primary DOC appellations are Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, established in 1968 and 1972 respectively. Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC is the only Abruzzo appellation dedicated exclusively to white wine, covering all four provinces. The dominant white variety, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo (also potentially related to Bombino Bianco — the genetic relationship remains under scientific debate), is considered the highest-quality member of the broader Trebbiano family. Natural wine producers working without sulfur additions typically label their wines as Vino da Tavola, outside the DOC framework. Montepulciano accounts for around 57% of plantings, while Trebbiano covers approximately 29%.
