LIGHT BODYFULL BODY
Description

Domaine Tessier Cheverny Rouge is produced from a blend of 70% Pinot Noir, Gamay, and Côt from vines aged 15 to 40 years planted on siliceous clay soils in the Loire Valley. The estate, certified organic since 1998, spans 26 hectares across three communes near the châteaux of Cheverny and Chambord. The wine undergoes semi-carbonic maceration with whole cluster fermentation. Aging takes place for four months in stainless steel, wood, and concrete tanks. Light filtration and minimal sulfites below 20 mg/L complete the winemaking process.

Tasting notes

Bright ruby color with violet hues. The nose displays red cherry, raspberry, and black pepper with subtle floral notes. On the palate, juicy red fruit flavors combine with earthy undertones and crunchy tannins. The finish is clean and refreshing with lingering spice.

Food pairings

Pairs with charcuterie, pâté, goat cheese, mushroom dishes, French coq au vin, grilled salmon, roasted pork, and simple margherita pizza.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package gets returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee to be determined based on shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive, we are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to re-route a package after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancelling fee – the amount depends on how big the order is. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat/frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. please let us know should you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Producer profile

Domaine Tessier

Domaine Tessier stands as a benchmark producer in the Loire Valley, crafting authentic wines in the Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny appellations since 1961. Located near the historic châteaux of Chambord, Cheverny, and Blois, this family estate has been passed down through three generations. Roger Tessier founded the domaine, Philippe took over in 1981, and since 2020, Simon and his wife Marie have continued the family legacy across 26 hectares of vineyards.

The estate has been certified organic since 1998, long before natural winemaking became fashionable. Domaine Tessier's commitment to sustainable viticulture includes using only lime and humus amendments to maintain living soils rich in microbial life. Young vines are grassed over while older plots are plowed, encouraging roots to dig deep into the terroir.

The vineyards are distributed across three communes—Cheverny, Cellettes, and Cormeray—featuring diverse soil types including siliceous clay, silico-clay-limestone, and gravels over limestone bedrock. This geological diversity contributes complexity to the wines. The microclimate, influenced by the Loire River and surrounding forests of Sologne, Cheverny, and Chambord, provides ideal growing conditions.

Domaine Tessier produces wines under two appellations. The AOC Cour-Cheverny showcases the local Romorantin grape, while AOC Cheverny wines include whites from Sauvignon and Chardonnay, and reds from Pinot Noir, Gamay, and Côt. The estate's philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention winemaking—native fermentations, light filtration, and minimal sulfites—allowing each wine to express its origin authentically.

Their Cheverny Rouge and Cheverny Rosé represent outstanding value for French natural wines from the Loire Valley that are fresh, vibrant, and terroir-driven. These are wines meant to bring pleasure while remaining healthy, alive, and digestible—true natural wines in every sense.

Wine region

Loire Valley, France

The Loire Valley, often called the "Garden of France," stretches over 600 miles along France's longest river, creating one of the world's most diverse and historic wine regions. From the Atlantic coast to central France, this picturesque region produces an extraordinary range of wine styles across 87 appellations, making it a cornerstone of French natural wine production.

The region's signature white grape, Sauvignon Blanc, thrives in prestigious appellations like Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, producing mineral-driven wines with crisp acidity. Chenin Blanc dominates Vouvray and Anjou, crafting everything from bone-dry to lusciously sweet wines, including sparkling pétillant naturel. Near the Atlantic, Muscadet focuses on Melon de Bourgogne, creating saline-driven whites perfect for oysters.

Red wine production centers on Cabernet Franc in appellations like Chinon, Bourgueil, and Saumur-Champigny, delivering floral, peppery wines with bright acidity. Gamay and Pinot Noir add lighter styles, while indigenous varieties like Grolleau and Pineau d'Aunis showcase the region's unique character.

The Loire Valley's terroir varies dramatically—from flinty clay and chalky limestone to volcanic soils—while the climate shifts from maritime influences in the west to continental conditions in the east. This geological and climatic diversity enables the region to produce wines that authentically reflect their specific locales.

Today, the Loire Valley leads France's organic and biodynamic wine movement. Producers like Domaine Tessier in Cheverny and François Chidaine in Touraine champion minimal intervention winemaking, creating wines that are fresh, vibrant, and expressive of their origin.
