Tasting notes

This is what happens when a white grape with razor-sharp acidity meets a teinturier red whose juice is naturally pigmented: you get a rosé with actual tannic grip and layered flavor rather than dilute prettiness. Wild mint and dark plum run side by side, and the 11.8% ABV keeps the whole thing fresh and drinkable.

Kortavebis Marani's Chinuri & Saperavi is a 2019 rosé from Kakheti, eastern Georgia, made by Tamuna Bidzinashvili. Chinuri is a white grape with naturally high acidity and notes of wild mint and stone fruit; Saperavi is a teinturier variety whose red-pigmented juice and skins lend color and dark fruit depth. The combination produces a rosé with more structural intrigue than most — pale red in the glass with real tannic presence underneath the fruit.

Bidzinashvili founded Kortavebis Marani in 2013, planting 2.5 hectares in Kakheti with 35 indigenous grape varieties. The estate is located in the village of Gremi within the Kvareli municipality, near the Great Caucasus mountains. Soils are predominantly red clay with white stones. Now 60% of grapes used come from the estate's own vineyards.

Fermentation and aging take place in qvevri, the large clay vessels buried underground that UNESCO recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013. No sulfites are added. The wine is certified organic and vegan, and clocks in at 11.8% ABV — light on alcohol, assertive on character.

The wine's high acidity and mild tannin make it well-suited to fatty, salty foods: think grilled lamb kebabs, aged sheep's milk cheese, or a charcuterie board heavy on cured pork. It also works well alongside herb-forward vegetable dishes like Georgian pkhali or roasted eggplant with walnut sauce.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Kortavebis Marani

Tamuna Bidzinashvili founded Kortavebis Marani in 2013, with the first vintage in 2014. The winery is located in the village of Gremi within the Kvareli municipality of Kakheti. Bidzinashvili initially sourced grapes from local growers while waiting for her own young vines to mature. She planted 2.5 hectares with 35 indigenous Georgian grape varieties — an unusual breadth of genetic diversity aimed at preserving and promoting Georgia's viticultural heritage.

By the time of the 2019 vintage, 60% of the grapes used came from the Kortavebis Marani estate. Soils on the property are predominantly red clay with white stones. Bidzinashvili aims for fully organic and natural wine production. She co-founded the 'Super Natural' natural wine festival in Georgia and has been involved in connecting foreign importers with emerging Georgian producers. Her Saperavi, labeled 'Temo' in honor of her former father-in-law who helped her learn winemaking basics, appeared on the menu at Noma in 2023.

All wines at Kortavebis Marani are made in qvevri using native yeasts, with no added sulfites. White and rosé wines undergo skin maceration in qvevri before aging. The Chinuri & Saperavi is classified as a rosé — the Chinuri provides high-acid white grape juice while the Saperavi, one of the few teinturier varieties in the world with naturally red-pigmented pulp, contributes color, tannin, and dark fruit without requiring extended red wine maceration.

Wine region

Kakheti, Georgia

Kakheti is eastern Georgia's primary wine region and produces approximately 70% of the country's wine output. The region sits in the Alazani Valley, bordered to the north by the Greater Caucasus mountains. The continental climate — hot summers and cold winters — suits high-acid, deeply pigmented varieties like Saperavi, which originated here. The Kvareli municipality in northeastern Kakheti sits near the mountains and includes the historic village of Gremi, once the capital of the Kakheti Kingdom and a Silk Road trade town in the 16th century.

Kakheti's key PDO appellations include Kindzmarauli, Mukuzani, and Tsinandali, each with protected status for specific grape varieties and styles. Saperavi dominates red wine production in the region; Rkatsiteli leads for whites. A smaller number of producers work with rare indigenous varieties, using qvevri fermentation — the 8,000-year-old method of fermenting and aging wine in clay vessels buried underground — rather than modern stainless steel or oak. Terroir in Kakheti ranges from fertile alluvial valley floors to hillside plots with red clay, limestone, and stony soils.
