Tasting notes

Auxerrois rarely appears as a single-varietal wine; most of Alsace's production goes into blends or Crémant, so finding it bottled on its own from a small organic estate on granite is worth your attention. Expect white peach, pear, and almond blossom with a round, soft texture and a clean mineral finish — no oak, no additions, just the grape and the granite.

Eric Kamm's Auxerrois is a 100% Auxerrois blanc from the family estate in Dambach-la-Ville, a fortified medieval village on the Alsace Wine Route between Barr and Sélestat. The vines grow across multiple parcels at around 500 meters elevation on volcanic granite soils — the same terroir that underlies the Grand Cru Frankstein. The estate covers approximately 6.5 hectares and has held organic certification (AB) since completing conversion in the early 2010s.

Auxerrois is a full sibling of Chardonnay, sharing the same Gouais Blanc and Pinot parentage. It tends toward a softer, rounder profile than Pinot Blanc, with lower natural acidity and a weight that sits comfortably in the medium-bodied range. Typical aromas run toward white peach, pear, almond blossom, and citrus, with the potential for honey and mineral notes as the wine develops. At low yields on granite, it produces wines with real focus and length.

Eric Kamm took over the domaine from his father Jean-Louis in 2005 and shifted production toward natural winemaking. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts. The wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulfites. The estate also produces wines under the Alsace Grand Cru Frankstein appellation, but Auxerrois is excluded from Grand Cru classification by AOC rules.

Auxerrois's soft texture and orchard-fruit profile work well with poultry, pork rillettes, and Alsatian tarte flambée. It also pairs cleanly with mild soft cheeses like Munster or fresh chèvre. Try it alongside white asparagus or a simple fish gratin.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Eric Kamm

Domaine Jean-Louis et Eric Kamm was founded in 1905 and is located at 59 rue Maréchal Foch in Dambach-la-Ville, Alsace. The estate covers approximately 6.5 to 7 hectares spread across multiple parcels around the village, with vines planted at around 500 meters elevation on volcanic granite soils. The domaine has been handed down through several generations and bottles its own harvest.

Eric Kamm took over from his father Jean-Louis in 2005 and initiated the conversion to organic farming, which was completed and certified under the French AB (Agriculture Biologique) label. The vineyards are farmed without herbicides, synthetic products, or chemical fertilizers. Grape varieties include Pinot Gris, Riesling, Auxerrois, Muscat, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Noir, and the estate works parcels within the Grand Cru Frankstein.

In the cellar, Eric ferments with native yeasts present on the grape skins and works without temperature control in the ancestral cellar beneath the family property. His natural wine range — labeled with a circled-A motif — is bottled without fining, without filtration, and without added sulfites. The domaine produces around 30,000 bottles per year in total across its conventional and natural ranges.

Wine region

Alsace, France

Alsace runs along France's northeastern border with Germany, occupying a narrow strip roughly 185 kilometers north to south between the Vosges Mountains and the Rhine River. The Vosges act as a rain shadow, giving Alsace one of the lowest annual rainfalls in France and a semi-continental climate with warm, dry summers and cold winters. Vineyard altitudes range from around 175 to 550 meters above sea level, and diurnal temperature variation helps preserve acidity and aromatic precision in the finished wines.

Alsace produces wines under three main AOCs: Alsace AOC (covering roughly 70% of production), Alsace Grand Cru (51 individual vineyard appellations), and Crémant d'Alsace for traditional-method sparkling. Grand Cru wines are restricted to Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Muscat. The region's soils are highly varied — granite, volcanic rock, limestone, sandstone, schist, and marl all appear across the hillside parcels — which contributes significantly to the diversity of wine styles produced here. Dambach-la-Ville, where Kamm is based, sits on volcanic granite and is home to the Grand Cru Frankstein.
