Tasting notes

Two days of skin contact gives this Riesling a faint amber tint and added texture without masking the grape's hallmark aromatics of white peach and citrus blossom. The zero-sulfur, zero-filtration approach keeps the wine alive and a little unpredictable in the glass, which is exactly the point.

Toot Toot! Beep Beep! is a skin-contact Riesling from Zabala Vineyard in the Arroyo Seco AVA of Monterey County. The grapes were farmed organically by Luis Zabala, a 10th-generation California farmer whose family has worked the land near Soledad since the Mexican land grant era. The vineyard sits in the old dry riverbed of Arroyo Seco at 39745 Los Coches Road, with alluvial soils of coarse sandy loam and round river stones. It was certified organic in 2010 by the Monterey County Certified Organic Program (MCCO) and the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA).

After two days of skin contact, the must was pressed and fermented by native yeast and bacteria. No sulfur was added, and the wine was neither fined nor filtered. The name comes from the chorus of Donna Summer's "Bad Girls" — a recurring reference point for Wonderwerk, whose first commercial wine was inspired by a Despacio disco event.

Arroyo Seco is one of California's windiest and coolest appellations, funneling afternoon gusts off Monterey Bay down the Salinas Valley. That wind and the rocky, well-drained soils slow ripening and preserve natural acidity in aromatic white varieties like Riesling. Wonderwerk produces this wine at the Atelier des Savants Fous custom crush facility in Gilroy, California.

The wine's acidity and light phenolic texture make it a natural match for spicy Thai or Vietnamese dishes where the fruit absorbs heat. It also works well with soft-rind cheeses, raw oysters, or simply cured salmon. Avoid heavy, tannic red-sauce dishes that would overpower its delicate structure.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Wonderwerk Co.

Wonderwerk Co. is a natural wine producer founded by Issamu Kamide and Andrew Lardy, two childhood friends from Virginia who relocated to California and launched their label together. The name derives from Wonderwerk Cave in South Africa, believed to contain the earliest evidence of human cooking, a reference to the idea of manipulating nature for both sustenance and pleasure.

The company operates out of Los Angeles and produces wine at the Atelier des Savants Fous custom crush facility in Gilroy, California, which houses multiple small wineries in a shared, temperature-controlled production space. Wonderwerk sources grapes from organically and sustainably farmed vineyards across California. Andrew Lardy trained in enology at Fresno State and worked on California's Central Coast before becoming Head Distiller at Spirit Guild Distillery in downtown Los Angeles. Issamu Kamide holds a WSET Level 3 certification and works in marketing and product innovation for a kombucha brand.

Wonderwerk specializes in low-intervention techniques including co-fermentation, piquette production, skin contact, and native yeast fermentation. Their wines are produced without fining or filtration. The label began with a disco-inspired rosé after the founders attended a Despacio event, and that connection to music and pop culture continues to inform each wine's name and concept.

Wine region

California, United States

Arroyo Seco is an AVA within Monterey County, California, established in 1983 and located in the Salinas Valley between the towns of Soledad and Greenfield. The appellation sits roughly 40 miles from Monterey Bay, and the north-to-south orientation of the Salinas Valley acts as an open corridor for afternoon Pacific winds that can be extreme. This wind slows ripening dramatically and keeps natural acidity high, making Arroyo Seco one of the cooler growing regions on California's Central Coast.

The soils at Zabala Vineyard reflect the AVA's geological character: alluvial sandy loams derived from decomposed granite washed down from the Gabilan and Santa Lucia ranges, studded with the large rounded river cobblestones locally called 'Greenfield Potatoes.' These well-drained, low-fertility soils stress the vines and help concentrate flavor. Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Gewurztraminer are the key varieties here, with Riesling particularly well-suited to the long, cool growing season.
