Tasting notes

Pale salmon-pink with clarity and brightness. The nose is fresh and precise, with strawberry, dried herbs, a hint of iron-like minerality, and a subtle floral note from the Touriga Nacional. The palate is dry and focused, with bright acidity, a light texture from the lees, and a clean finish.

BodyFruitTanninAcidity
  • Style: Dry, light-bodied rosé with a savory, herb-driven character and precise, focused acidity; structured and food-friendly rather than fruit-forward, with the complexity that the five months of lees contact adds
  • Grapes & terroir: 41% Tinta Roriz, 37% Souzão, 22% Touriga Nacional; Fox Hill Vineyard, Mendocino County, California; organically farmed; a Portuguese varieties block within a vineyard otherwise known for Italian grape varieties
  • Winemaking: Tinta Roriz whole-cluster bladder-pressed; Souzão and Touriga Nacional foot-trodden then pressed; 2 hours skin maceration; 5 months lees contact; bottled unfined, unfiltered, no added sulfur
  • Serving temperature & decanting: Serve at 46–50°F; no decanting required; can be served straight from the fridge and allowed to open slowly in the glass over 10 to 15 minutes
  • Pairing: Conservas de sardinhas portuguesas (Portuguese tinned sardines)
  • Similar to: A structured, savory Bandol rosé or a dry, mineral-driven Loire rosé made from Cabernet Franc; both offer the same combination of red fruit precision and herbal, earthy depth

Ruth Lewandowski Rosé Cuvée Zero 2024 is a dry rosé made from 41% Tinta Roriz, 37% Souzão, and 22% Touriga Nacional, three Portuguese varieties grown organically at Fox Hill Vineyard in Mendocino County, California. Produced by Evan Lewandowski at Ruth Lewandowski Wines, the Tinta Roriz is whole-cluster bladder-pressed, while the Souzão and Touriga Nacional are foot-trodden before pressing. After two hours of skin maceration, the wine spends five months on its lees. Ruth Lewandowski Rosé Cuvée Zero 2024 is bottled without fining, filtration, or any added sulfur. 12% ABV.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Ruth Lewandowski

Ruth Lewandowski Wines was founded in 2012 by Evan Lewandowski, a winemaker from Salt Lake City, Utah who first developed a serious interest in wine through travel and work experience in Europe, including a period at Domaine Binner in Alsace. After returning to the United States, Lewandowski began making wine under the name Ruth Lewandowski, which he borrowed from the Old Testament figure of Ruth, whose story of loyalty, renewal, and gleaning across someone else's harvest field resonated with his own approach to sourcing fruit from other growers' vineyards and working with what each season provides.

The winery is based in Healdsburg, California, and sources grapes almost entirely from organically farmed heritage vineyards in Mendocino County, particularly Fox Hill Vineyard and Testa Vineyard. Fox Hill is a mixed-variety site with an unusually diverse set of plantings that includes Italian varieties from Piemonte, Portuguese varieties, and other grapes rarely seen in California. Lewandowski draws heavily on this diversity in building his range, which includes the Italian-variety co-ferment Feints, the Portuguese rosé Cuvée Zero, the skin-contact Tatto, and a rotating set of single-variety and single-vineyard wines.

Across the entire range, the approach in the cellar is minimal. Indigenous yeast fermentation, no additions of any kind including no added sulfur, no fining, no filtration. Winemaking decisions center on maceration length, vessel choice, and lees contact rather than on additions. The "Cuvée Zero" designation that appears across several wines in the range is a reference to this commitment: zero additions throughout vinification and aging.

Wine region

California, United States

Mendocino County is the northernmost of California's major wine-producing counties on the North Coast, sitting just above Sonoma County along the Pacific coastline. It is a large, geographically diverse county that encompasses radically different growing conditions across its various sub-appellations, from the cool, fog-influenced Anderson Valley in the west, where Pinot Noir and sparkling wines dominate, to the warmer inland Redwood Valley and Ukiah Valley further north, which are better known for Zinfandel, Carignan, and old-vine Grenache.

Fox Hill Vineyard, from which Ruth Lewandowski sources the Portuguese varieties for the Rosé Cuvée Zero, is located in Mendocino County and is particularly notable for its collection of heritage plantings. The vineyard is known primarily for its Italian variety blocks, which include Arneis, Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo alongside a range of other varieties less commonly planted in California. The Portuguese block, planted with Tinta Roriz, Souzão, and Touriga Nacional, represents a rarer experiment in Mendocino, where these varieties are far from the norm. All farming is done organically.

Mendocino County as a whole has a strong organic and biodynamic viticulture tradition, with a higher proportion of certified organic vineyards than most other California wine regions. The county's terrain is largely influenced by the Mendocino Ridge and the coastal mountains, which create significant microclimatic variation across even short distances. The combination of marine influence in the western valleys, cool nights even in warmer inland sites, and well-draining soils on the hillsides allows for slow, even ripening and the retention of natural acidity across a wide range of grape varieties.
