Badiki is a rare indigenous variety grown almost exclusively in Tyrnavos, and this is one of the only skin-contact expressions of it available outside Greece. The wine delivers lime blossom, chamomile, and tangerine with soft tannins and bright citrus acidity at only 11.5% ABV.

Naiads is a skin-contact white wine made from 100% Badiki, a white grape variety with deep roots in Tyrnavos, Thessaly. The wine is produced under the PGI Tyrnavos appellation, with vineyards sitting at 70-250 meters elevation on mainly limestone soils with good drainage and a pH of 7-7.8, in the shadow of Mount Olympus.

Fermentation is spontaneous with ambient-temperature native yeasts. The wine spends roughly 30 days on skins with 50% partial stems included, all in stainless steel tanks. A short finishing period in old oak barrels follows, and a minimal dose of sulfites is added at bottling. The result is a vibrant amber-hued wine.

On the nose: lime blossom, chamomile, quince, and spiced orange rind. The palate is light-bodied and dry, with juicy tangerine and peach fruit, bright citrus acidity, and a soft mineral finish. Tannins from the skin contact are gentle and give the wine structure without weight.

Badiki is one of the oldest surviving grape varieties in the Tyrnavos region and was among the few local white varieties that persisted after phylloxera devastated the area's vineyards in the early 20th century. It is grown almost exclusively in and around Tyrnavos, making this wine a genuine expression of a very specific and underrepresented place.

Works well alongside soft fresh cheeses, grilled whole fish, and mezze spreads with hummus, olives, and flatbread. The wine's low tannins and bright acidity also cut through fried foods cleanly. Try it lightly chilled with tinned fish or a summer grain salad.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Papras Bio Wines

Papras Bio Wines is operated by the Papras family of Tyrnavos. Stergios Papras, the family's oenologist, served as president and oenologist of the local cooperative from 1979 until recently, where he championed the indigenous grape varieties of the area, particularly Black Muscat of Tyrnavos, and raised the profile of Tyrnavos tsipouro. His brother Thomas and his son personally manage the vineyards.

The Papras family vineyards have held certified organic status since 1990, the first year organic certification was available in Greece. Farming uses only sulfur and copper to address vine disease pressure. Vineyards are irrigated sparingly, roughly three times per year, weeds are cut under the vines for airflow, and soils are not tilled. The vineyards are flat, surrounded by neighboring orchards and fruit trees, and sit in one of the hottest valley floors in Greece.

Stergios Papras produces unfiltered, skin-fermented wines in a utilitarian cellar with no concessions to aesthetics. The focus is on indigenous varieties fermented with native yeasts at ambient temperatures in stainless steel, with old oak used sparingly for finishing. Sulfites are added only at bottling in minimal quantities. The Naiads Badiki is one of the few wines in the portfolio focused on the Badiki variety rather than the signature Black Muscat.

Wine region

Thessaly, Greece

Tyrnavos sits on a flat plain in the Thessaly region of central mainland Greece, at the southern foot of Mount Olympus. Vineyards in the PGI Tyrnavos appellation range from 70 to 250 meters in elevation. Soils are primarily limestone with good drainage and a pH of 7-7.8. The climate is continental-influenced Mediterranean: hot, dry summers and cold winters with moderate rainfall. The proximity to Mount Olympus allows cool breezes to moderate summer heat and helps preserve acidity in the grapes.

PGI Tyrnavos is one of several appellation designations in Thessaly alongside PDO Rapsani and PDO Anhialos. The region is historically best known for its Black Muscat of Tyrnavos (Moschato Tyrnavou) and for Tsipouro, a distilled spirit that holds a Geographical Indication specifically tied to Tyrnavos - the only town in Greece to hold this distinction for a distilled product. Indigenous white varieties grown in the region include Badiki, Roditis, and Limniona. Badiki is notable as one of the area's oldest surviving white grapes, documented in Tyrnavos prior to the phylloxera devastation of the 1930s.
