Description

Fornacella Brunello di Montalcino originates from the esteemed Montalcino region in Tuscany, Italy. The vineyards are situated at elevations between 300 to 400 meters above sea level, benefiting from a favorable microclimate and well-drained soils ideal for cultivating Sangiovese grapes. This vintage faced arid conditions; however, careful vineyard management allowed for the production of high-quality grapes. The winemaking process involves hand-harvesting the grapes and fermentation in wooden and steel vats over approximately 25 days. The wine is then aged for 36 months in Slavonian oak barrels, ranging from 10.5 to 22 hectoliters in capacity, and undergoes an additional minimum of six months of bottle aging before release.

Why we like it

This Brunello di Montalcino is ruby red, tending toward garnet. The nose reveals fruity marasca cherry and currant, harmonized with spicy tones and vanilla nuances. It is distinct and elegant on the palate, with energetic tannins and a slightly sapid, mineral finish.

Wine region

Piedmont, Italy

Nestled in the heart of Italy, Tuscany is a region that epitomizes the country's rich cultural heritage, culinary excellence, and breathtaking landscapes. Known for its rolling hills, medieval villages, and world-renowned wines, Tuscany offers a unique blend of history, gastronomy, and natural beauty that captivates every visitor.

Tuscany's landscapes are a painter's dream come true. They are characterized by gently rolling hills dotted with vineyards, olive groves, and cypress trees. The region's countryside is interspersed with charming villages such as San Gimignano, known for its medieval towers, and the picturesque Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage site famed for its quintessential Tuscan scenery. The lush valleys and scenic hilltop towns provide a serene backdrop that has inspired artists and writers for centuries.

Tuscany's cuisine is a testament to its agricultural bounty and traditional culinary practices. The region is famous for its simple yet flavorful dishes highlighting local ingredients. Tuscan bread is a staple, often unsalted, and used in soups like ribollita or pappa al pomodoro. The cuisine also features hearty meats, such as the famous bistecca alla Fiorentina, a thick, juicy T-bone steak grilled to perfection. Wild game, particularly boar and rabbit, also finds its way into many Tuscan dishes.
Fresh, locally sourced produce is a cornerstone of Tuscan cooking. Seasonal vegetables, aromatic herbs, and high-quality olive oil enhance the flavors of every dish. The region's culinary traditions are deeply rooted in its history and vital to its cultural identity.

Tuscany is synonymous with some of the most prestigious wines in the world. The region's winemaking heritage dates back to the Etruscans; today, it boasts a plethora of esteemed wine regions. Chianti, perhaps the most famous, produces wines that perfectly blend Sangiovese grapes, offering flavors of red fruits, spices, and a hint of earthiness. The Chianti Classico region, with its iconic black rooster emblem, is renowned for producing some of the finest examples of this wine.
Brunello di Montalcino, another gem, is a powerful and complex wine made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes. It is aged for several years, resulting in a deep, robust flavor profile with dark cherries, leather, and tobacco notes. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and the Super Tuscans, a modern category of high-quality wines that blend international grape varieties with traditional Sangiovese, further showcase the region's versatility and innovation in winemaking.

Beyond its culinary and vinous delights, Tuscany is a treasure trove of art and history. Florence, the capital, is often called the cradle of the Renaissance. It is home to magnificent art and architecture, including Michelangelo's David and the breathtaking Duomo. With its well-preserved medieval center and the annual Palio horse race, Siena offers a glimpse into the region's storied past.
The Etruscan heritage is evident in cities like Volterra and Cortona, where ancient ruins and museums preserve the legacy of this pre-Roman civilization. Each town and city in Tuscany has its unique charm, inviting visitors to explore its narrow streets, historic landmarks, and vibrant local culture.

Tuscany encapsulates the essence of Italy's rich cultural heritage, culinary excellence, and natural beauty. Whether sipping a glass of Chianti, savoring a plate of ribollita, or wandering through the rolling hills and ancient towns, Tuscany offers an unforgettable experience that engages all the senses. This enchanting region invites you to slow down, appreciate the finer things in life, and immerse yourself in its timeless allure.
