Tasting notes

The 2% wild-vine Shiraz is a small but telling detail: it adds a faint peppery lift to the strawberry and red-plum fruit that pure Merlot-Pinot blends rarely deliver. The zero-sulphur, native-yeast approach keeps everything bright, slightly spritzy, and genuinely refreshing without tipping into funk.

The Agori Red is an 80% Merlot, 18% Pinot Noir, and 2% Shiraz blend sourced from organically farmed vineyards in Hope Forest, at the southern tip of the Adelaide Hills in South Australia. The 2% Shiraz comes from wild vines growing among Sauvignon Blanc rows on the property. The Merlot and Pinot Noir were fermented separately before being blended.

Travis Tausend works strictly zero-zero: no additives of any kind, no added sulphur at any stage, and fermentation with only indigenous yeasts. All production is done by hand using a manual destemmer, a hand-driven press, old barrels, and stainless steel tanks. The result is a wine that is light to medium in body, with fresh crisp acidity, powdery tannins, and a slight natural spritz.

Hope Forest sits at the southern end of the Adelaide Hills GI, one of the coolest microclimates in the region thanks to its elevation and dual cooling winds from the Southern Ocean and the Gulf of St. Vincent. Soils at the Top Range vineyard include ironstone and quartz deposits in loamy clay over a sandstone bedrock, contributing to the wine's lively mineral edge.

Travis Tausend has been immersed in natural wine since 2005 and began making his own wines in 2014. He runs the entire project solo outside of harvest, when friends and family help pick fruit. Ten percent of profits are donated to charity, only solar energy powers the cellar, and all packaging apart from bottles uses recycled materials.

Serve lightly chilled with charcuterie, mushroom-based dishes, or grilled salmon. The low tannin and bright acidity also make it a natural match for soft fresh cheeses and vegetable-forward dishes. Works well as a solo pour straight from the fridge on a warm day.

Important Compliance Requirements

FedEx and other carriers we might occasionally use can only deliver wine to customers who are 21 years or older. Someone must be at the address to receive the package, carriers don't just drop a package and leave. They must ensure the person receiving the wine is 21 or older.

Re-shipping a Package

If a package is returned to us after three failed delivery attempts, we can only re-ship the wine upon payment of a re-shipping fee, to be determined based on the shipping address and number of bottles. Shipping wine is extremely expensive. We are sorry about this, but we have no other choice. Please make sure there's always someone at the address you enter as your shipping address.

If you'd like to receive a refund for a package that was returned to us after FedEx made three delivery attempts, we can do that but we must keep a $20 refund fee; FedEx charges us a lot of money for returns, unfortunately, I can't stress this enough.

Re-routing a Package

If you'd like to reroute a package after it's been shipped, we can do so for a $20 re-routing fee. We cannot re-route a package across state borders. For any change of address, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 days from placing the order or we cannot guarantee we'll be able to reroute or change your order's shipping address.

Canceling an Order

If you'd like to cancel an order after it's been shipped, we can do so upon payment of a small cancellation fee – the amount depends on the size of the order. Carriers charge us a lot of money to recall a package en-route.

Heat/Frost damage

We are not responsible for heat- or frost-related issues. We offer ice-packs upon request. Please let us know if you think that there could be heat-related issues. If we don't hear anything from you regarding weather issues before an order is shipped, or if you don't request a hold due to the weather, we are not responsible for heat/frost damage.

Placed an order. What next?

1. You will receive an order confirmation email with your order summary.*

2. As soon as your order ships from the warehouse, usually within 2-3 business days, this applies to all shipping rates, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information. 2DAY shipping refers to shipping time; we still need 2-3 business days to prepare an order. We need to pick and pack, QA, add printed collateral, and palletize the orders.

3. Please track your package using the tracking service.

4. The carrier will attempt delivery a maximum of 3 times. After 3 delivery attempts, your package will be sent back to our warehouse.**

*Please ensure your email address is correct; otherwise, you will not receive the order and shipping confirmation emails.

**If delivery is attempted 3 times without success, or if you fail to retrieve your package from the carrier depot by the stated deadline, the shipping fee will not be refunded to the customer.

Producer profile

Travis Tausend

Travis Tausend opened Adelaide's first natural wine bar and enoteca before turning his focus to production. He has been engaged with natural wine since 2005 and started making wine under his own label in 2014. He runs the project as a one-person operation, handling logistics, blending, bottling, labelling, and cellar work himself. During harvest he is assisted by friends, family, and a small paid picking crew.

All fruit is sourced from organically farmed vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, including sites in Hope Forest at the southern end of the region. Tausend manages vineyard rows himself alongside the vineyard owners, and pays harvest workers above South Australia's minimum wage. Ten percent of business profits are donated to charitable causes, all cellar energy comes from solar, and all materials except bottles are made from recycled content.

Every wine is produced zero-zero: nothing added, nothing removed. Fermentation relies entirely on indigenous yeasts. Equipment is minimal by design: a hand destemmer, a hand-driven press, old barrels, and stainless steel tanks. No pumps, no fining, no filtration, no sulphur at any stage. Winemaking decisions vary vintage to vintage, and Tausend does not seek to replicate a fixed house style from year to year.

Wine region

Adelaide Hills, Australia

The Adelaide Hills GI covers elevated areas of the Mount Lofty Ranges east of Adelaide, with all qualifying vineyards sitting above 300 metres. Peak vineyard sites reach 500 to 650 metres above sea level. The region is South Australia's coolest wine-growing zone, with a mean January temperature around 19°C compared to 23°C in the Adelaide CBD. Vineyards receive moderating maritime influence from the Southern Ocean and Gulf St. Vincent, which also create pronounced diurnal temperature swings that preserve acidity in the grapes.

Soils across the region are variable but commonly consist of grey-brown loamy sands over clay subsoils, with shale and rock present on higher ridge-top sites. Hope Forest, at the southern tip of the Hills, is among the coolest pockets in the GI due to its elevation and dual ocean-influence winds. The region has two formal sub-regions: Lenswood and Piccadilly Valley. Sauvignon Blanc is the most widely planted variety, followed by Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Merlot and Shiraz are also grown, performing with distinctly lighter structure than in warmer South Australian regions like McLaren Vale or the Barossa.
